King Suspension Rear Long Travel

So, this seems to be the only thread talking about this king alternative for the MetalTech long travel setup. That is, 11.5 inches of travel with just stock mounting points. Are you actually getting that travel?

Any downsides?

The bump stop spacer that limits your uptravel is a downside, but with 35's you'll probably need it anyway if you don't have a body lift. Not sure if you need a bump stop spacer with 33's, I have a body lift on mine.

You'll need to remove your sway bar in the rear as well like VA4Runner09 mentioned, to squeeze the last bit of travel out by freeing up the rear end.

Well here are a few photos of some recent trips to Moab. Super happy with the travel. Yes with any mod there is almost always a downside.

I'm not running sway bars and must say it drives terribly. Need to look into some aftermarket deal for the rear at the minimum. My driveshaft hits my RCI gas tank skid pretty badly even after modifying it for more clearance. Other than that the thing rides like butter on those faster trails. I personally love the adjustability in the resi's. I use them every single time I go wheeling.

Damn that looks nice.

What sort of aftermarket options are there for the rear? I know I've seen swaybar disconnects for the front, but I don't think I've seen that for the rear.

What (if anything) do you plan on doing for the driveshaft issue?

Also, I've called TAP and am waiting to get back to me on whether they can order those kings. Would you have the specs for them if I was needing to go elsewhere to purchase them?

Right. no rear swaybar is a downside. I wonder how much of a difference I'll feel on-road.

I'm actually wondering if the springs that you need for this (which are only 104lb on top) would me more of an issue in moving to 35s, as they can't provide much lift. Probably still OK I think, but I'm unsure.

So, this has an additional 1.5 inches of travel vs LTDSC's method. Does his keep the rear sway bar?

I bought and built my kit with TAP you can definitely order from them. Other than the Metal tech items. Tell them you are talking to Brian.
There is a 5th gen that has one hell of a build and I'm going to mimick his effort in bringing back the road manners with an aftermarket rear sway bar kit. The kit is called antirock. Mind you this kit isn't even remotely made for us but would take some fabrication skills and just general knowledge on sorting it all out. Thus the need to bug him on a few questions. But either way enjoy that gem of a build (guy has all the moneys to do it right/figure it out the way it should be done)

The no sway bars you will feel most definitely on highways. Feels like you are on marbles. The rear responds at a different rate then the front thus alot of minor adjustments. You kind of get used to it but still tough. Another reason I like the CDC adjusters. I crank them all the way to stiff when i know i am driving long distances. Helps a bunch with body roll.

Hope this helps and feel free to PM me with any further questions!

You can always remove your rear sway bar now, that will tell you the difference...

Theres more that factors into a spring's lift amount than just how stiff they are, the Metaltech springs have a 104lb section and a 300lb section and are stupid long. I have the Metaltech LT rear springs, and they give 3" of rear lift according to Metaltech (They used to sell two separate springs one with 2" and one with 3" of lift, now they only sell a 3rd part # spring for 3" lift) Suspension lift height has nothing to do with being able to fit larger tires anyway.

i use all 10" of my rear suspension with the LT springs, Bypasses and the LT links. No sway bar for me. Drives fine, and i also have my bump stops set up properly so theres no banging on any important items.

Was there ever a part number released for the MT length rear Kings? Or is it custom order only through TAP? I was one of of the ones who had a rough experience with the group buy, left a bad taste in my mouth with them but still wanting to piece together my own non-icon LT rear.

Here ya go! These are the tags for the front shocks and rear shocks (obviously the 700lb coil tag are the fronts).

And yes these are 100% custom for king so get ready for the wait.

Awesome! Thanks for the quick response and info.

King website show that part number with the standard travel so looks to be custom order only, however.....there's some LC80 and Tundra rear shocks that might fit the bill depending on valving.

25001-125A 4Runner 2003-2009 Rear Shocks Compression Adjuster 16.022 24.614

These might be a good "off the shelf" compromise
25001-144A Tundra 07+ Rear Shocks Compression Adjuster 15.831 26.028

Slippery slope man! When are you coming out to the promise land???

As much as I'd like to, I'd need to bring the truck over to hit up Moab while I'm on that coast and that's practically committing a week just to driving back and forth. Combine that with a wedding next year and suspension issues that I'm chasing all around the truck, it's not anywhere on the horizon...

What's the part number for the Right Rear? And how much did the rear shocks cost? Thanks

VA4Runner09, that part number for the rear shock is the exact same part number as the King rear shock OEM performance replacement which has a length of 16.022" and 24.614".

So just so everyone understands, these are custom. They may be the part number for the OEM's but the lengths should be different. If you ran these with OEM parts you would blow up your rear suspension. My recommendation is to call King/TAP and tell them you want the lengths that are mentioned on my ticket or reference my order number. Hopefully this helps.

Thanks. Yes, I currently have LT in the rear but I'm looking to get bypassed LT shocks.
