Yes it runs. It will pull a lot of timing, known as "limp mode" so you're going to have a loss of power and possible loss of fuel efficiency but it will protect the engine.
Just like gamefreakgc said...you're going to notice a huge drop in power and fuel economy when it does go. From the time mine first threw a CEL till it was completely out, was less than 2 weeks. It was a major PITA trying to get it back home 4 hours because of how it was running in limp mode. That was with a supercharger as well. You might want to rethink taking that long of a trip before getting them replaced. Do yourself a favor and do both of them, along with the harness at the same time. You might also think about replacing injector o-rings while you're in there, as they are super cheap and easy to do since you're already in there.

Ive read almost every thread I can find on doing the knock sensor job, everyone says use OEM or Denso. Toyotas are over 175 a piece ( takes 2)
On Ebay and Amazon you can find "Denso" knock sensors for under 25 a piece, but you read reviews and they are either knock offs or when deleivered are not Denso at all.
Even Arayama sells them at over 170 each.

I did my knock sensors about a year ago. Bought a pair off ebay for about $50. They were Densos and have been perfect. It turns out that my harness was bad and the original Matsushita sensors were still good with 312K miles! Replaced the intake manifold gaskets, which stopped the years long slow coolant leak.

I used these from Amazon. They were real Denso sensors, and worked just fine.
I was skeptical at first because of the price. But they turned out to be good.

What code exactly? Different code for each bank on the 5vz? From what I've read, when the ECU fails to get a signal back from a KS you can't miss the performance hit, unless your truck was running on 3 cylinders before. Also read it's the wiring more often than not. They're not too bad to access on anything other than the 3vz engine. If you dump a bunch of unburnt fuel through your exhaust you risk destroying your catalytic converter, and a decent replacement will cost a lot more than a couple knock sensors.
no I wont go cheap with aftermarket and afraid to use the cheap densos as I have read a lot of negative reviews of knockoffs
yes the harness was in the plans as well and it will be Toyota , not aftermarket.
Items this hard to get to and this critical I wont go aftermarket

Yes, knockoffs of Denso are crap, but Denso is a primary manufacturer of automotive sensors, electronics, solenoids, etc (They are a primary supplier for Honda and Toyota). If you can find a genuine Denso product on Amazon, Id say go for it. I've bought 2 Denso O2 sensors and a Camshaft Position Sensor all off Amazon and they came in genuine Denso boxes, and were roughly $50 less than genuine Toyota products. None have failed since installation and its been a few years for the CPS and roughly 2 years for one of the O2's.
If the product comes and it looks/feels cheap, or doesn't have the Denso branding, send it back.
