Yes.
And I did. The 4Runner has proven to me and my family that it is the real deal (as everyone else on this forum). I love our trucks. I don't see myself driving anything else right now, it's just too damn fun to keep from being garaged for more than a couple of days. It's a lifestyle choice and I adjust my expenses accordingly. It's only money, just work and make more. Life is too short so I'm going to squeeze it for all its worth (cliche but as you get older, things in life make you realize that there aren't too many chances to happily fulfill it). The SE is my DD and the SR5 is my wife's DD.
I'm staying with Toyota. First car I ever drove was a brown Corona. The most fugly car I ever drove but it was a TANK. I'm done and gone with Hondas/Acuras. Won't ever drive a Nissan again EVER (my wife's old Sentra was the worst POS I've ever drove). I'm not a big fan of the big three either or domestics for that matter. Their offerings are underwhelming to me. I have to admit, though when driving my dad's old Camero that was FUN. I miss youth.

Definitely, and I already have. Just ended a four year love affair with an '04 Sport and traded in for an '07 Sport exactly the way I wanted it. I'm learning to readjust to the difference in mileage (V6 vs. V8), the squeak in the backseat, and the steering wheel vibration. Overall I'm still thrilled with my 4R and would do it all over again if I could. Although, the Tacoma's are rather good looking too. :biggrin2:
I love everything about my current 4Runner. It's the best winter vehicle I've ever had, and gotta love the V8.
My only hesitation in buying another would be about the gas mileage. I don't think it will be long before gas gets above $3/gallon permanently. As long as I've got a short commute, the 4Runner is awesome. But if I ever had to go back to driving 50+ miles a day, I'd have to look at something like the Highlander or maybe the RAV4. I'd certainly stay in the Toyota family.

If they had the XREAS on the SR5 I might of opted for that. Heated side mirrors, would of been nice. I do like the styling on the GX better, but I'm too much of a tightwad and it is a good bit taller and I've heard in cross winds you feel it. Red would of been nice, but I really like the black for the 4Runner styling.
Seriously for $29029 including destination plus taxes for the 4X4 V8 with D package, I don't think anything out there comes close to this vehicle.
The V8 rocks and gas mileage really isn't bad, my buddy picked up the Highlaner V6 AWD and isn't getting a whole lot better.
I would probably wind up with the exact vehicle today.

Same thoughts here. The 4Runner fits our lifefestyle very well at this point. Being home-owners it seems we are always going to Lowes, Home Depot or a nursery so having cargo space is very important. We have five in our family and we still frequently have to transport all of us (sometimes even six). We also camp and engage a in a variety of outdoor activities so the ability to tow a camper and get out to the backwoods in every season is very important. The 4Runner may not be the best for any one specific factor but it fits the general bill extremely well.
Perhaps when we get older, the kids are off on their own, we downsize our home and we change our "camping" style (perhaps a Class B in our retirement years) a change will be in order. I can see myself getting a smaller AWD wagon (e.g. Subaru) or crossover (e.g. RAV 4). I used to commute 40 miles each way to work but now it's only 15. If my commute was longer and/or gas prices climb significantly I may buy a Civic or Corrola for everyday use and save the Runner for other activities.
If I bought one vehicle today for overall use it would unquestionably be another 4Runner. (If they changed that darn rear barndoor in the GX than I would reconsider that as well).
Falls, am I sensing from this post and others that perhaps you are considering going from the 4Runner to another vehicle?

If I get a new one, I will probably wait until 2009 when they redesign it. Hopefully they will dump that 5.7 V8 that the tundra has into the new 4runner.

Yeah Falls, why don't you just go test drive that Power Stroke Diesel and see if it really is a seduction that you can not overcome.
Unfortunatedly they have a really tempting incentive going on right now.

No I am happy with the 4R , it is a unique truck and a tough little bugger imo.
If you think about it , as far as an SUV goes this is about a truck like and tough as you can get ( for the money). Most everything is uni-body and is not designed for any type of off road use. The $r has proven to me it is more than capable of that. Plus the resale value id probably one of the best out there in its class.
The engines is excellent weather it be the 6 or the 8.
For what it is the gas milage is good IMO.
I love the fact that it rides nice , but still rides like a truck ( if that makes any sense ).
If I sway from the 4R it would probably be to get a double cab Tacoma sport 4x4 , maybe FJ . I guess the ultimate would be to have both .... lol
We will be selling the Cobra ( never gets driven,kind of a huge waste of money for it to sit there ) and trading in the Escape in a 4cyl Rav4 AWD for the wife.
I'm happy with what I have , I hope the next Gen. 4R will be just as tough and even tougher looking. If they mall queen it out then I'll go to the Taco or FJ.

I've driven them , quite a beast , but have no need for one.

The 4Runner is still the mid-sized SUV that does EVERYTHING very well. What happens is, once a new vehicle is introduced the rag mags set it aside and only praise the new vehicles. I have test driven almost every mid-sized SUVs to date and in my opinion the 4Runner is still the best all-round mid-sized REAL SUV on the market, for the money.

I like a Tundra CrewMax, but I don't have a real need for a full-size truck. I got a 05 Tacoma DoubleCab and it does what I need very well. I won't venture away from Toyota, only maybe a Lexus GS350 for a sedan to replace my Camry. So definately, if I were to replace the 4Runner, I'll get exactly what I have now and probably with the X-REAS option. The 4Runner can't be beat, I can jam all my snowboarding gear inside (no roof top carrier or ski racks) plus the gear of two others and cruise up to the mountains in comfort. The best thing is I don't need to freeze in the cold dealing with chains and worry about being runned off the road.
