were also considering the IS250/350 since i really liked that eversince it first came out just gotta convince the wife a little bit more haha.. i love the sharp looks on the IS specially in red... i remember you were considering getting one a few months ago didn't you? not sure if it was you but somebody on the board
 
i think that i would look for something used. we take our 4runner off-road a fair amount and now, looking back, i think that it was a mistake to do this with a new vehicle. there are so many used suvs for sale that have never been off-road and can be had pretty cheap.

my wife really really wants a landcruiser (fj80), so we would probably end up with one of those. other options would be a five year old range rover, maybe have a disco II, for a year, or get a rubi.
 
Having had our 4Runner now for about 4 months, I am really coming to like it more and more. (Except for the stupid sun roof rattle :mad: )

But if I had to do over, and we actually did, I would look into a Chevy Tahoe. We looked at these when buying a used vehicle and just through dumb luck I was able to find our used V8 4Runner before we found a Tahoe that we liked.

Having a 01 Silverado I know all the issues with the pre 2007 Tahoes, so I would know what to expect. Plus I think they are one of the nicest vehicles in that class.
 
Without any hesitation or equivocation I would get another 4Runner. I wouldn't change a thing as to engine, options or color.

I'm extremely pleased with what I got. I wouldn't even replace it with a Lexus GX470 if money was no object. A friend of mine got a metallic blue GX470 at the same time I got my Toyota. I actually like my 4Runner better.

This morning I was dropping my daughter off at school and pulled up behind a black GX with chrome Accents. My 4Runner is black with chrome accents, as I was walking back out, they damned near looked identical. And I like the styling of the GX plenty, but I drove away thinking, if you're going to get a black one, get a 4Runner.

I would go find another 2004 or possibly 2005 Sport Edition identical to what I have. The only change I may desire is the leather seating with the seat warmers.
 
dont get me wrong, i love the 4runner but i want a car really bad...if i got a new car tomorrow hands down a subaru wrx sti. If I had to stick with a truck...I might try out a tundra 5.7L. They look amazing.
 
Probably something smaller and narrower like an FJ, definitely stay with Toyota. Between the 06 T4R and my wife's 04 Sienna, parking garages downtown are a nightmare. I often end up going up to the roof just so I can park w/o squeezing in between two vehicles and taking up the entire parking space. That's when I really miss our 3rd gen T4R.

If parking were not a concern, I'd go for a crew cab Tundra. Sometimes you just gotta have a truck for hauling stinky stuff like fertilizer (NOT fun in my wife's van or her new T4R) or big stuff like 4x8 plyboard.

I came from an 04 Z71 Tahoe , I liked it a lot , one of my favorite all time SUV's thats still a truck ( pre 07 ) It was a great vehicle , had quite a few little issues , until the BIG one with the front axle going out at 52k miles. So I dumped it off.

I test drove an 06 Z71 and liked it since we were thinking of jockying some vehicles around in the family. After driving it I realized its a big pig of a truck compared to the 4R. Although I do agree its the best vehicle in its class & I do like them. We were trying to do the switch because I have to drive my father around and the 4R is a little to small for his 6'11" frame ...lol

Except for bigger interior the 4R put's the Tahoe to shame with handling , off road capabilities , even towing with the V8 4R. I must also admit I like the Tahoe 4wd system a lot better. The traction control can be switched on and off , I love the 2wd , 4wd hi , 4wd auto & 4wd lo features also with the locking rear diff.

All around a decent truck , nothing is perfect.

The other thing is that they absolutely plummet in value at lighting speed. Best if you stay with used when buying some type of domestic SUV.

And you know I've heard from a few owners of half ton trucks about the front axle going out......not really sure what the deal is there.....:confused:

Like you said, everything will have small issues and I liked the Tahoe because I have knowledge of almost all this issues with pre '07 GM Truck platforms.
 
I had a Blazer which I really liked pretty well and kept in mint condition. Not too much trouble really, but when a truck lost it's load on 294 and I couldn't stop I clipped the front corner. I was able to drive the vehicle home, but because they don't hold their value it was declared a total loss. That pretty much eliminated the domestics for me. Good suggestion on going used if going domestic, but the thing is I prefer going new and taking care of the vehicle.
