known flywheel issues

i continue to have vibration issues while driving. it is there at low speed and gets worse and louder going 70+. i thought it was the hub bearings but it is not the cause of the problem. i am leaning now towards either the flywheel is cracked or the trans is going out. the trans shifts well, so at this point i don't know what else it could be.

i read a while back that the flywheels crack and cause problems. someone tell me about this please.

If you have an auto you have a flexplate. The flex plates can crack. Usually you dont notice anything other than noises in drive. You can pull the inspection plate off the trans to inspect for cracks.

Have you checked the driveshaft double cardon joint? This can cause issues kind of like you are explaining.

The rear u-joint as well will cause vibration and noise. Easy to check too.

both joints are new, oem. problem was there before.

Flywheel issues would be related to engine RPM, not vehicle speed.

I'd hesitate mentioning this, and as much as say 'don't actually do this', but it's possible to *very carefully* put the rear wheels on jack stands, chock the fronts really well, on a smooth/firm'level surface, and then put it in gear and spin the drivetrain. Obviously, you are putting yourself, onlookers, neighbors life, limb, and property in danger doing this, but it might give you more info than listening to noises as you drive along.

nothing wrong with flexplate. i am thinking the trans but it shifts well. i don't know what else to check. the vibration/groaning is coming from the front part so i''l rule out the diff.
