KO2 impression

so yesterday I got some ko2's on my tuck
for those of you looking for tires this is my impression of the tires

first two different tire shops tried to push other tires, both said they would be too stiff and too loud after researching I went into Costco and said this is what I want...they said its the wrong size..I said I don't care, I know they will fit and they are the same size as what s on (265/75/16...they all push for 265/70)
as far as loud, they are quieter then my last tires, which were not as aggressive in tread design, and besides...windows down no louder then my borla exhaust...
being a 10 ply they actually are stiffer and corner better
plus they lifted my truck a pinch
and today I took it down a road I did not want to go before and crossed a creek that some of you would think that is nothing

the cons
I drive a lot of the same road over and over...and like to explore new roads...roads that are not paved....forest service type roads
they are "louder " in the fact that they grab more gravel and throw it up into the wheel wells.....click clack type of noise
and being a ten ply I felt a lot more of the washboard then I had previously
also they have no mileage warranty

that said, soon the weather will turn, rain , mud, snow...I'm glad I got these tires
I did lots of research and if you go to tire rack you can compare lots of tires, reviews and specs, after doing that, I knew these were the tires I wanted

anyway if your not a soccer mom mall crusier , or some city slicker trying to look tuff....these are great tires

Your impression sounds realistic to me. I have the KO's at 265/70(8 P.R.); I've driven on nothing but BFG KO tires since late 1998(4 different vehicles).

costco wouldn't mount the 265/75/16 for me as they said they were too big for my rims. a local tire company had no problems mounting them for me.

about 8000 miles on them i've been really happy with them.

Find a set of 17" Toyota truck wheels and get the KO2 in a 265/70/17 "C" load range, it is as tall as the 265/75/16 (31.6") but lighter and rides smoother on a 4Runner. I have a set on my 2000 limited with 17" FJ Cruiser 8 spoke wheels and love them. Plus, most 17"
Toyota truck wheels are 7.5" wide instead of 7.0" for a better tread contact.

there really quiet but man do they collect rocks in between the thread
after i get out the trail i gotta pick the rocks out by hand theres not a lot but some get lodge in there pretty good and will make a noise like your cv is outta grease

I've had them on my Tundra for 5k miles and love them too. They make a weird squishy sound at slow speeds but other than that they are super quiet.

Excellent in the mud. EDIT: many other guys saying they are bad in mud. I had no problems on the trail I ran but i guess the weight of a Tundra helps too.

Loved the original BFG T/A. Still rock the treadwright knockoffs. By far my favorite tread design. They do so well in mud dirt and aired down for rocks. What I really like is the snow/ice performance. I ran muds for years and hated them on the street in ice. Pretty much dangerous. 4x4 was needed no matter what. With BFG T/a i never have to even use 4x4 anymore on the street.

I've had the KO2s for about 8000 miles and I am 95% city slicker trying to look tuff I suppose? They will get some good use in deer season. I love them. I also have them on my work truck and they do very well in the mud. They do indeed grab gravel.

They wear very well also.

They've been on the 96 since 11/2014, for nearly 18,000 miles.
Daily driver and fun-mobile.
Had the old style BFG A/Ts before these for almost 6 months, these have better on-road traction wet and dry. While the outer tread blocks have some damage they haven't chunked off like the old BFGs did.
Completely agree with the gravel grabbing.
So far very happy. Now there's a set on the 99 too.

Have 33 ko2s in 4runner and 35s on truck. Both ride great. Love these tires and the new sidewall pattern.

I'm rolling the 295/75/16 KO2's on my rig (cheaper than the 285/70/17 for some stupid reason) and have wheeled them hard at Tillamook State Forest here in Oregon. They climb rock with the best of them, handle sand, snow, and gravel with ease....just don't try mud. I know they are not a mud tire but they sure can't clear a lug to save their life. I had to use my winch for the first time in years because a little mud made it impossible to choose my line. Other than that I absolutely love them. They make over-landing a pleasure. 10 ply means you don't fear the flat.

OP, don't be afraid to air them down if the ride is too stiff for your tastes. I've got E-rated Hankooks on my LX and I find them just right at about 28psi (Lexus is a much heavier vehicle than the 4runner). Treadwear might not be ideal and mpg will take a little hit, but much more pleasant to drive. If I could get a C load tire, that's what I would pick, but it was unavailable at the time.

I agree with above post. I used to run 26psi on my muds and 28psi on my T/A's. I now run 35psi because I like the added stability when turning and highway riding.

Aired down to 5-15psi they are like pillows when offroad.

Sounds like everyone with E range is OK with the road ride and level of noise?

im running that size and my fuel economy is the same as my 265 70
and the noise is basically non existent except at slow speeds like mentioned above but i dig that squishy noise

I have been rolling BFG KO2s in 265/75/16 E, for a little over 20,000 miles. I have to say that I like them quite a bit. I didn't notice a big difference between the stock Michelin LTX as far as noise and overall road comfort. In other words, I wouldn't let the E rating scare you off. The E rating might be more pronounced with other manufacturers, but I don't feel like I am bouncing around the roadway or anything. Ha! I notice the squishy sound on pavement at slow speeds too. I dig it.

They seem fine offroad. I try to stay away from deep mud as I don't feel like it is this tire's strength. That, and mud goes everywhere making maintenance that much more fun.

I was looking at the Goodyear Duratracs, Cooper ST MAXX, as well as the KO2s when I needed new shoes. The Coopers were a fair amount more expensive at the time so they fell off the list that go around. I didn't really care for the sidewall design on the Goodyears. It seemed to me to be a bit too rounded. I am not sure if this is much of a contributor to a decent amount of the sidewall punctures that I hear about, or if this happens much to their E rated versions as well. But I also read that the Duras get pretty loud once they start wearing down.

So far, I would be happy to buy these again or maybe the Coopers as they are similar if not a bit more aggressive.

agreed. they are amazing in snow. I just wish they made them in a LARGE size. I would put them on my off road truck!

hopefully the new ones perform as well the originals. I plan to put some 37's on my 85 runner. it will be my mtn/hunting rig. I have 35" OG KO's on there now. with about 60,000 miles on them, and they still surprise me with what they will do in the deep snow.

I bought some today (265/75/16 E), I like them. I actually like how the feel on the road, heavier steering (the way I prefer) and more feels more planted. I have them at 38 psi. Discount tire seems to have the on sale at the moment to match tirerack, I got them for $728 I think, before tax and everything.

Did some exploring on the backroads just now, dirt, gravel, then it rained so a little mud. Pretty happy with them.
