Hey all,
I bought Koss PortaPro KTC a while back for headphones. They cost $79. They sound great! Very light. The only problem is that i want something kinda more sound isolation. Koss provides no isolation whatsoever...so, while the music is great, you can hear just about everything going around you. But, no, i don't want full sound isolation or big arse cans on my ears. I just want semi-isolation, lightweight, and portable.
Yesterday, i bought B&W P3 for $200. From all the reviews, they are great. I picked this over Bose OE2i simply because it is B&W!! If you guys know home theater stuff, B&W is top notch! (Note, i have an iPhone...so, my next headphones must have mic and controls.) Beautiful design, beautiful construction. Wow. Problem? When i put it on, it sounds like a bad base car audio out of a Civic vs. my Koss Portapro!! :ybrick: I am not kidding you guys! Yeah, it may need "burn-in"...but the sound signature sucks! Midbass is bloated. Midrange is kinda strange...yeah, kinda bloated...but somehow a female voice doesn't sound good...almost like nasal congestion like. The top end is just rolled off severely!! The sound is "muffled". Compared to my P3, the Koss has amazing range...you hear the whole frequency range of the song. I know that Koss also puts some emphasis down low, but it does not sound that way! In addition, you can feel the cloth material on the earpads rubbing your ears...not a totally bad thing, but you know that it is there.
As you can imagine, i am all bummed out! I am returning the B&W today back to Apple store. (Note#2...normally i buy these over the net to save a few bucks...but with headphones, in my experience, it is nice to have a quick return policy.) I am hesitant to try Bose OE2i, but i may give it a shot simply because some reviews note that they are the most "natural" sounding in all BOSE lineup. I have no idea what that means.
Now, i know why Koss Portapro has been getting rave reviews for so long. I get it now. They do sound amazing. But, i wish that Koss would make an accessory for those who want more isolation without the extra weight.

I can't believe that a high-end speaker company like B&W would make such crap!
