Kotrin's 4Runner Build & Adventure Thread

So here is test fit for plastic trimming, had to also redesign all the power steering brackets. Gotta thank my dad for none of this would happen due to my physical disability. I help when I can but tend to over due it and end up in bed for days. . uploadfromtaptalk1431392803767.jpguploadfromtaptalk1431392856434.jpg

Any tips to avoid during my installation? :)

Not particularly - it's just a pain to interpret the instructions at times. You will have a few leftover fasteners when it's all said and done. Just take your time when you're lining everything up.

So with the help of my dad, I'm now bed ridden, but the 4runner is completed in time for our overland exploration trip first weekends of June. [emoji2]

Turned out really well! Looks really good with the red.

Thank you. I have a few little things I have to adjust, but I had to get it completed by Memorial Weekend as my dad and I will be doing the overland exploration from Sisters, OR to Doris, CA. Super excited to go on this trip!

You can't see it in the picture, but I had to 'flex' seal my fog lights since I will need to fabricate a special bracket to actually mount them. I cut out the filler piece with a dremel and than i pushed the light in as a compression and sealed around it. Actually holds up extremely well!

So when I added my bumper I increased my tension in my coils as my front end was to low for my opinion, plus I added another 150lbs to the front. I'm sitting pretty much at 23" around all sides, maybe 23.5 in the rear

Debating about my HI-LIFT

So I went to install my HI-LIFT before my overland trip in two weeks when I ran into a small dilemma. After I installed my mounts from my old 3rd gen onto the GOBI roof rack, I realized that it will hit my roof with the 'hook' part. I go to flip it around and I can't slide it on my brackets so now i'm looking for other alternatives.

The search came up with lots of good ideas and is pushing me to have to buy a different mounting hardware, but my mounts cost more than my HI-LIFT when I got it 4+ years ago.

Documentation for frustrating and to follow-up with how I apply my solution.

TBC......

After some adjustment and thinking outside the box I got my hi lift installed and my cb..

Had to cut our overland trip short due to my Son getting sick on the route, so some of this may be rambled and i'll upload a link to the photo share.. Taking a 5yr old on this run, he was the really trooper. In the car 8 hours a day or more, bouncing around, 90+ temps with no ac at times...my respect goes to him...but I wanted to do more, but I turned it around before things got too bad. So Here's the Story---
------------------------------------------------
So my Dad has an 84 Toyota Pickup that I gave him in 2008. I bought it for 400 USD no built and had been sitting in the back of this guy's hard for years. After working on it, he got it to run and over the span of the last 9 years has turned into this.

My son and I loaded up and left on Friday morning by 8am. P6051485.jpg
We arrived at Hoodoo and hit the trail at noon. Our goal was to make it up to Three Creek Lake to camp for the night and head out the next day. During our trip out we started seeing some fires off just a few miles and were really concerned and finally picked up some radio stations informing us it was a controlled burn so we continued going.P6051502.jpg.

Here is where our first night was spent. Three Creek Lake. It's at 6500' in Elevation.

The next day we were up by 7am and on the road by 8am. Loved the trail and beautiful views till it got really skinny (wrong turn on my part..)

Again up early and hitting the road. We stopped at the Natural Bridge of the Rogue River. I made the decision to start heading home as my son was eating well and just over all concern.

Hit up crate lake as it saved close to 100 miles just cutting through it

I did see a black 4runner that was giving mine the eye of envy when we stopped briefly at Crate Lake. Next time I do this, I'll make sure I do it over 7 days, versus 4 and just do about 60 miles a day max. Some of the days were just WAY to long for my son...But overall he said he enjoyed it. There was a few parts that were so awesome I could go down just to do them for a day! But never got enough pictures as I was driving/leading with my setup

and to little time…

If anyone in the Portland area wants to do this run with me. Looking to possibly do it again in the fall when it would make it 'more' interesting =)

//will upload/fix the rest with links after i figure out how to get more pictures in..

Yeah or imgr. I'm already been home less than 48 hours and I got the bug to go again. I washed the outside and now need to buff what looks like someone took a metal rake along the sides of my 4Runner. Look's like i'll be able to get it out, but I would do it again. It was so much fun that I want to do it when it is raining/snowing =D

That looked like a fun trip. I want to do that sometime...wife permitting... Any difficult spots? Can a stock 4runner do it?

Between June through September you could do 99% of it with a stock 4Runner. There are options you can take or go around to increase/decrease your heart rate =D

Two things you need to bring: Water/Bug Spray...Son learned that bug spray is good after being bitten the first few minutes. I strongly believe that we ALL learn through personal experiences.
