KYB GR2 Shocks don't last?

I noticed that my 03 V8 2WD (140K miles) is bottoming out over speed bumps. I checked the maintanence history from the previous owner and they had been replacing the shocks every 30K miles! (with KYB GR2). Is this normal? This vehicle only sees mild offroading once a month. It feels like its time for shocks again and I want to get something that is going to last, but have a factory or near factory feel.

Use the FJ Cruiser Bilsteins- they are great. I just switched my stock Tokikos/Tokicos or whatever to the FJ shocks. My stock shocks were not KYB though.

KYB shocks/ struts seem to be easily outlast the OEM. I used to have them installed on my old 2000 T4R, my sister 02 maxima, girlfriend Camry without any problems whatsover. I was ordered a set of 4 KYBs from Amazone.com for my 06 T4R for $168 shipped before I found a complete set of FJC shocks & springs off ebay. I'm currently running on the FJ setup and save the KYB for later. So, the answer is: it's not normal & the KYB feel closest to OEM.

Do these work with the stock 4Runner springs? Do you have a part number?

Bottoming out seems like the springs could be the cause as well. Have the ever been replaced? 140k can be a lot on one set of springs, no matter what they are. Just a thought.

they are original springs. I never considered that the springs would fatigue over time, I thought they would be designed for infinite life?

No way. I can almost guarantee that the springs are you problem, then. I'd say if you're going to replace one or the other, try the springs first.

2006 4runner 2wd V6 bottoms out

I have a 2006 Sport 4runner 2WD 4.0L V6 and it bottoms out hard in the front.. It currently has the system on the vehicle that has the hydraulic line going into the struts/shocks, Is this that Xreas system? Can I change to aftermarket units or am I stuck with these? The vehicles height on the front looks low. I know that springs carry the weight of the vehicle and would like to know if the 1/2, or 5/8 inch spacers on the top of the strut mounts are a temporary solution? Thanks

generally, if a shock goes you can watch the hood line on the road and just see the hood like it's floating up and down down the road. There's just no resistance to hold it still at all.
