KYB SR4119/4120 Research

How many of you have used KYB 4119/4120’s on your stock V6 4Runners? How happy are you with them?

I’m probably overanalyzing because at first it seemed like a no brainer, but the more I dig the more I find some mixed reviews.

I’m looking at getting them from Rock Auto or Partsgeek.

It’s a daily driver, no off road, 285K miles on it.

Any thoughts or recommendations are appreciated!

Sure looks as though you want to get things "stock", I'm interested as well. Although I don't see a leak on my XREAS, the ride is terrible and wanted to take them off and do OEMs, but if these KYBs are as good or better, I'm in!

DEAR GOD DO NOT USE PARTSGEEK!!

You can go read in my AC Dead thread about my nightmare with them. TLDR in a $700 order $500 of the items were incorrect and they refused to RMA anything and I had to chargeback. You can check on a search engine and find that this is the norm with them.

Thanks. Yeah, I researched more and just went with Rockauto. Parts arrive this week.

I went KYB. The only other one I’d consider is the Bilstein 4600. My wife drives it 95% of the time so I wanted to keep it as close to stock as possible.

I don’t have xreas, but there are tons of videos on how to disable and remove it on youtube. It looks pretty straightforward.

I had "billies" on my 97 Grand Cherokee before I got my 4Runner. They were great, but honestly too stiff for us. KYBs from what I read are the closest thing to stock. I have XREAS but have given up on them. Let us know how they fair.... Good luck

Don't go KYB. I had to replace mine after two years. They leaked so I went with Dobinsons. Kicking myself for wasting money on those (not to mention having to dis-assemble the struts twice).

I used the KYB front & rear shocks... very good results and they last a lot longer than 2 years. :noidea: Been in use on my 08 sport V6 for 6 years now with zero leaks or any other issues. Also they have a lifetime warranty so if by chance there is a issue or defect, they will replace them for FREE.

KYB says they are ~10% stiffer springs & valving than stock so they provide a slightly firmer ride and will raise the front ~1" for a more level stance.

Best option for the price.
