I rarely go out of my way to make sure someone really knows my opinion or thoughts. I read posts and learn, or take facts as I see them. So take this as you may and judge as you will. I'll try keeping short as possible. PM me for any details or etc.

Purchased my 1997 4Runner 6 cyl auto with 88k before winter came from jeeps. Wanted flex all I could and wanted to wheel, but when I got this I wanted a DD which my jeeps were but always had there issues. So when I got this cream puff I wanted a daily driver smooth, letting my 08 F250 diesel rest a lot more until truly needed. Great truck On 37's and so on lifted. So if I wanna bounce down road and tow or plow or feel all big an bad to help compensate for my "ego" I have that.

So after the addicting bug I decided if I do this I wanna do it right. After research and having good friend in a 3rd gen I came to my verdict. OLD MAN EMU 881 coils. 90004 shocks. All assembled for ease, 890 rears with OME 60028 shocks. Long story short 4k miles in I just couldn't take it anymore. Did some searching. Installed Bilstein rear shocks for runner and it made HUGE help. Minor offroad slow crawling on rocks. Mainly feeling ever crack in road on my normal drive to work.

Got to point I realized I'm beyond tired of how rigid this trucks starting to ride. Between driving my lifted diesel, and my wife's 2015 tacoma TRD sport bone stock.... I knew it should not be this bad. My last jeep rubicon 2004 on short arms and lots and lots of work.... Drove like a cloud down road... Just don't add weight she was literally a cloud.

After much search I saw a few threads bout TRD Coils and BILSTEIN STRUTS.... One member compared them back to back. Figured I have nothing it loose. I ordered TRD tundra coils Y/Y and Y/B along with Tundra Bilstein struts. Used stock upper plates with Monroe insulators. Set the Bilsteins {again tundra model which have 5 settings} on 2nd to lowest setting. Installed today, drove for 10 miles so far and all I can say is I am very mad I never installed these from start.

Summery. If your searching for a lift, and want a nice strong stance. Want to fit a sized tire even 285's (I have 265/75-16 nitto terra grapplers on SCS 16's 4.5 backspace) with no problem. And have a nice smooth driving, daily driver, floating down the road but not body roll, equal to a brand new tacoma/runners habits for bump absorption and body sway from anything in road... Buy this setup, and be enjoy. I cannot wait to wheel this and notice any more relaxing vibes. OME did do ok at slow speeds on rocks. But I mean 4LO creeping. Anything else and it just felt like I was being abused. I didn't buy this truck to abuse me or make not fun for people to ride in or complain about. I want it to ride smooth and soft like a light SUV it is.

My runner is bone stock empty, stock bumpers and inside. Nothing more than what you get from dealer. With a spare hitch, tow strap and jumper cables in it. As of now I couldn't be any happier. I can't wait to drive to work tomorrow or to break in and hopefully soften up even more. As of now it's great I do not feel even a crack in the road or any imperfection. Small 60mph test with bumps and bad holes in road I normally hit were light years better, I mean hands down noticeable smooth. Not jolting jarring and ruff ride in cab. Sorry long post. It is just very exciting. Happy to have figured out. I'll add link of I believe Ripsaws or something like that's review. Helped me convert due to every detail matching mine as far as how each rode.

Wow you just helped ease my decision much more!! I have been contemplating between trd tundra coils vs ome 881s on my 4x4 97 runner!

Do you have a pic of your runner with the Tundra coils and bilsteins on the second perch along with your rear ome coils??? Very curious!! Moroney167

I might I'll have to dig into the photo library. And if I do have them I need to remember what suspension was what in the pic! Overall trust me and anything else you read. It was better.

However, 5th Gen trail has been my new DD and love it!

Thanks for the reply! Yes I have been searching threads non stop about different lifts and I originally intended on the tundra coil lift. I'm looking at putting 906 coils in the rear and im not a big fan of the rake stance so I was thinking of going on the 2nd perch to level or slightly raise it in the front... then again I read where some say leave it on the first perch and do a top plate spacer for a better ride? Any info you can revive in your memory would be much appreciated! And pics! Haha thanks!

You aren't the first person and won't be the last to regret OME shocks. They work for some people, but I hear all the time people installing and then a year later are buying bilstein, toytec, radflo, or icon. I have bilstein 5100, TRD and LC springs on my 4runner and I can't imagine what it would be like with OME.

The front spring on mine is on first perch in the front, so there is some rake.

Thanks for the reassurance! Got a pic of your rig?

Good review! I'll add one more +1 for the Bilstien 5100s, I'll add that I had a really harsh ride on my Tundra 5100/Eibach load rated E tires. I went to the Tacoma 5100s after the Tundra 5100's blew out (leaky) after about 3-4 years, and then also switched over to load rated C tires, and wow, so much better.

I still have the Tundra 5125s and OME 890s in the rear, and it's a bit harsh without my spare and any weight in the back, but I'll be swapping those for Tacoma ones too if/when they wear/break, and probably a different spring.

Wow your's looks like it has good height to be on the first perch! I was thinking of going 2nd perch and 906 in the rear

Approx height is 23" in front and 24.5" in rear, measuring center of hub to fender edge. About 100lbs in the cargo right now and full tank of fuel... Full load with fridge and camping gear and water (600lbs plus 2 passengers?), the rear settles about even with the front. I'm probably going to add some airbags just help dampen when going quick offroad with load.
