Laptop and Tablet

I am looking for a new laptop and tablet for an upcoming 9 month deployment. The laptop will be used for storing a majority of movies and music while rotating it through on the tablet for use. What would you all recommend for each of these? Trying to keep it at a reasonable price, ideally under $1200 for both.

I need a tablet that can play any or at least a large amount of different video formats.

Laptop doesn't need to be good quality, just have a decent sized hard drive.

Hard drive size nowadays is cheap as shit, I wouldn't worry about it being a driving factor. When I built my gaming PC I added two terabytes of storage on a secondary drive for like $40, and haven't even dented it.

As far as everything else goes, I can't give much advice since I'm not into computers much anymore. My Apple stuff seems to have lasted me awhile but has been pissing me off as performance is decreasing, though my MacBook Air I'm on now which is from 2011 still pulls strong for just watching movies and internet browsing...which I was inclined to suggest though that's pushing your budget and might be more than you need.

And on that note, why do you want a tablet and a laptop? I assume one is for being mobile and entertained vs if you're just laying in bed or in your quarters? I'm not a big fan of Windows (or any operating system for that matter), but there are a lot of advertisements for the dual purpose laptop/tablets with the detachable keyboards and stuff--though they haven't turned me on much and don't seem very impressive, but again I haven't researched them. I also know a lot of people on campus have iPads with the little keyboards. They never strike me as super effective as a laptop since the iOS system just doesn't seem as easy to operate as a conventional laptop, but you could look into that since you just unfold the keyboard for a laptop-esque setup and then have a normal tablet otherwise.

Point is, nowadays it seems like a lot of companies are trying to merge laptops with being mobile enough to use while walking so you might want to consider not having to buy two separate systems! Food for thought! :D Thanks for serving man.

Laptop and Tablet for $1200 or less?

Almost sounds like a setup question for a Surface Pro ad.

That's what I'd get if I were in your shoes with maybe an external hard drive if you need the space. I guess it depends on how well you get around in Windows.

I have a Windows tablet with only a touch screen keyboard, but I really dig being able to run my Windows programs on it. It's a full blown computer in tablet form.
