Larger Battery without cage?

Hey Guys -

Quick question/emergency situation. I left my car alone for a month while I traveled. The battery is toasted. Charged it for 3 days and it's still dead.

I bought a pelfrey built cage a while ago and it's clearly a perfect time to upgrade now.

I want to upgrade to a 31M but will have to drive the car home from AZ back to CA.

Has anyone installed a larger battery without a cage. Just worried about driving it back and something happening without it being locked down.

Trim the ledge off the engine side of the factory tray. this will limit the rotation that the 31 M may otherwise have under the tie-down. be careful you don't over tighten the tie down and crack your 31M. You may have to trim the edge on the fender side as well.

once you install the peltfreybuilt cage you no longer will need this plastic tray, so it's not a loss to make it work for you in this temp situation.

Don't go offroading like this. For normal road driving you should be fine. If concerned, check under the hood during gas stops.

Also, if you drained the factory battery completely, it may not charge of a "normal" battery tender. They need a minimum voltage back in order to understand what charging cycle to run it on. You may want to hang it off another vehicle with jumper cables to charge it off that alternator. Or check with a Batteries Plus or similar store.

Used to run the die hard platinum too. Now running a Northstar 31M. The terminals on that sit a bit closer toward the headlights, so I had to put an extension on the factory positive that goes into the fuse box.

But the rating and reviews on the battery are awesome.
