Just when I thought I found a good tire :wtf:
rebelbowtie tomorrow would be as in Monday but I guess now I gotta start over shopping again for tires. I will be getting tires tomorrow but its a matter of what tires I will go with now. I thought the Hankooks were great from what I read on other forums and everyone talked highly of them. Guess I am back to square one in looking again for another tire. Anyone want to recommend any tires? I thought about Nitto's but they look to be a super hydroplane looking type of tire. I like the General Grabber AT2's but I dont think anyone around me has them in stock.
What does everyone think of the General Grabber AT2's?
Any other tires you would recommend?
I am looking for a pretty aggressive AT tire and dont want to spend a **** load ether but my budget is probably no more than $210 per tire or maybe $240 per tire.
BTW you do relize those Hankooks were rated some of the best tires in performance in their catagory?

The Hankook's are rated very well, which is what sold me on them. As mentioned, I was far from impressed. I found them to be very noisy for an AT tire (louder than my current Duratrac's). They were also very bad in wet weather, even the slightest amount of rain made it feel as if you're driving on snow. There were several close calls where I almost lost control, which is what pushed me over the edge and I replaced them with around 20k miles on the set. Since then, I've read several other complaints on them. I'll also add I've been loyal to Hankook for car tires for quite a few years now, which was another reason I got them for my 4runner.
I've had quite a bit of experience with the Destination ATs (my dad has ran them on his Tundra for 7-8 years). They have been excellent tires, just not as aggressive looking as the others.
Those are the only tires in your list that I have experience with. However, I've read great things on here about the Bridgestone Revo 2's, they're just more expensive than most of the others.

Whoa out of left field with the Cooper STT MUD tire?!? Thought we were talking all terrains?
I've ran the Bridgestone Dueler Revo's before and was less than impressed with its offroad prowess. It was however a nice commuter tire and relatively quiet.

If u want the hankooks buy them! But also do your research tires are what connects u to the road, everyone here prefers a different tire for different reasons. Me: safety in all conditions, tread wear and price. I won't put my family in my truck on crap tires. Also I like to have fun so they have to perform well.
My experience with aggressive looking tires are there are just that aggressive looking, and when our tires matter the most at highway speed in snow or rain the aggressive tires load up with rain or snow.
When u r looking for tires look at the price and life of the tire. Sure Michelin ms2 tires are pricy but with good tire care you will get 80k out of them.
Bfg tires are about the same price but u will be lucky to get 40k.
What is the reason u r lookin for aggressive tires

Or just an all a rounder?
Have u considered the Yokohama geolander at-s?

lol your not sounding like a jerk, dont worry. I am sure you could have been a real jerk like some. lol. I honestly hate searching through forums and really dont have a lot of time on my hands because I teach at a school and pretty much busy through the whole day. lol. But thank you for the link and I will take a look.

You'd have to run improper inflation and not rotate your tires to "be lucky to get 40,000" out of a set of any BFG tire. I've managed 40,000 out of KM2's on a 1 ton truck and I've had a used set of T/A KO's that I ran on the rear of my old woods truck and they outlasted a brand new set of Nitto's. BFG's wear like iron, there is a reason why so many tire manufactures try and copy their tread pattern and rubber compound.
That being said I ran Michelin M/S2 on a Dodge Ram I used to own and for all weather street driving those tires were champs. I also abused them and towed heavy work trailers daily and did my fair share of smokey burn outs and they still lasted a while.
Here is a picture of a BFG KM2 with 40,000 miles on them next to a brand new KM2 of the same size.
These were ran on a 1 ton Chevy ECSB 4x4
Ok so after work I went and drove to three tire shops to look at all the tires they offered. BTW it was running so this would be a great chance to try out some new tires.
I gotta say after looking at several tires in three shops my gut kept telling me to go for the Hankooks. Before buying the Hankooks or anything else I went by to the school I teached at and sit in the parking lot with my laptop pulled out and started doing my research. Come to find out the Hankooks do pretty darn great in rain, snow and moderate off road. I looked through Nissan, Ford, Chevy and Jeep forums where those who bought the Hankooks and what they thought of them. Nothing but positive straight across the board. So drivers of these tires claimed to have 30,000 miles and no issues.
So since it was raining I thought what a better chance than to test them out. I got the Hankook Dynapro ATH's and left driving in rain. During three different point I was going 70-75 on the interstate and having to come to dead spots every so often do to rush hour and exits. So hydroplane or skids or nothing. These tires stopped better and smoother than my All Season previously to these. I have the 4Runner at 75-80mph and no shake, no hum or anything. Smooth as butter. They look great and really durable by the way. Like I said I have seen others on other forums using these tires and no complaints and only happy customers with lots of miles on these tires. I am very happy and love them.
If anyone does plan to get these make sure they are the ATM's and not the AT's. I dont know if those who had no good luck had the regular AT's or ATM's.
I say these tires are good for a daily driver in all road and whether conditions. And moderate to middle off road driving. Just awesome all around AT tire.

That's a good price, Hankooks I've alway heard to be a great budget tire. I know quite a few guys on the GM forums run the Dynapro MT with good luck.

I really hope you have better luck than I did (mine were the ATMs). I ranted and raved over their performance because they were excellent tires, for the first 10-15K miles. Mine were very unsafe in the rain, so much so that my wife, who didn't understand all the mods, was begging me to change them. As you've probably noticed, about every tire has at least a couple bad reviews, but the majority really like them. I'm one of the bad reviewers for the Hankooks, and anyone who drove my 4runner in the rain agreed.
Will post pics here shortly once my phone charges. lol. I really hate to post pics because I have no lift at all yet and I feel a little small compared to the lifted 4Runners here. lol. But hopefully this weekend I might swing in and get a spacer lift kit just to give it the height to look better and to go a little further off road. With a little lift that will help me better off road and make the truck look better too. For now here shortly I will do just a spacer lift but once I get ready for the front and rear bumpers is when I will get the full suspension for the added weight I will be taking on.
I would do a full suspension now if it were not for trying to buy a good used fishing boat. lol
But again I will post pics here shortly and of course my 4Runner is a little shy since she doesnt have a lift yet. lol

And very true like you said all tires seem to have their bad reviews. Of course not every tire will be perfect ether but I am praying these do good.
They have to be better than the Hankook AS I had on previously. The previous AS I had were horrible uneven wear from the previous owner and come to find out when I got underneath them they had big sliced gashes in the sides. It looks like the previous owner or car lot aired them down and let them sit for a long time. Then once they got ready to sale they aired them up and the insides were weak from being aired down and the walls started to split. My inside walls looked like someone took a sharp sharp knife and sliced the inside walls. I didnt know this till I was fixing my transmission cooler lines and I happened to take a breather and looked over to notice. lol. This was all four tires too.

If I were to go with a 2.5" or 3" lift would it look ok with tires and size tires I have now? I went with the 265-70-17's.

So just wondering as I dont want the thread Nazis all over me. But so am I right in saying on a completely stock 4runner I would be ok with putting 255/75/17 and they would clear the wheel well/body/UCA all around? Again would love some input so as I dont have to start another thread and plan on getting tires soon.
Yes you would be fine. There are tons of threads/pics on this very subject so search around. I started one when I put them on my now recently deceased T4R.
