Old system: Decided to overhaul my lighting management system. Had 2 wireless accessory panels from Trigger Accessories, and while it is a more advanced system, it had 3 main drawbacks.
1. parasitic draw
2. keypad ate cr2032 batteries like candy, and they aren't cheap.
3. relied heavily on blue tooth (as in, its not always instantaneous and can be spotty).
Waited til black friday and no specials caught my eye other than the Lasfit 8 gang switch panel going on sale on Amazon. Honestly, they are all rebranded so pick whatever one you can get your hands on that is on sale. I wanted something simple and was hardwired to the vehicle (no more blue tooth BS). I went with Lasfit just for the branding (no i didnt get it for free, or a discount, or anything).
Pros:
1. fairly cheap and goes on sale often.
2 Comes with everything you need to mount it.
- didn't use the engine bay mount and used my own mount.
3. circuit breaker is included
4. multiple ways to mount the keypad (flush mount, swivel mount, etc).
- I choose to use a swivel mount and double side tape.
5. extremely easy to install. Wire up to battery, and run 2 wires (acc and control pad wire into firewall)
6. has auto dimming backlighting.
7. different keypad colors
8. different functions: momentary on/off, strobe, always on/off.
8. stickers for keypad are laser cut and thick. ( i didn't have my reading glasses on and put them on crooked.....oops)
9. well built and simple and very clean.
Cons:
1. uses a solid state built in relay. So if you are not careful, you will fry it.
2. Wish the positive battery wires were a little bit longer.
3. switch panel is only rated for 60 watts so I probably will only wire up lights and "remote" or signal wires/switches only.
Advice:
1. You may want to buy your own under hood mount, to allow for future upgrading. Whatever you pick, make sure your fat fingers can fit under it.
- the lasfit mount will do if you don't need more surface area for other things. I personally needed to mount a siren and have other goodies planned in the future.
2. use a cut up clothe hanger to run twires under the mount to reach the panel fo a clean install and less cursing or drink more beer.
3. Don't use wires with thick waterproof sheaths, and if you do, cut most of it off or it will want to bend out of the terminals.
4. don't be a dumb dumb and mount stuff to your OEM fuse box. Good luck getting into it quickly.
