Last try at making the DD useful, Pics

After two bottles of detergent felt on the ground and exploded when I opened the hatch I decided to give a last try at making the double decker useful. Next step if it doesn't make it is the removal.

Some carpet and wood for the stopper. I know the carpet is ugly, some leftover from the garage, but the grip is awesome!

That's a great idea...every time i open the hatch something falls out... super annoying...

i usually roll down my window when expecting something to fall out, and remove it that way before opening the hatch. but, like anyone else, ive broken many things.

Nice idea, I remember when I bought my 4R how excited I was about the DD system, and I never once found a single use for it. Like trevloc I always look through the rear window and usually roll it down to prevent stuff from falling out. Got a new 08 without the DD system and to prevent stuff falling out, I bought a weathertec digitalfit trunk liner

I use some adjustable bungee cords across the back opening to stop the groceries from bailing out. They hook to some rope loops, you can figure out where (they look like fluted knobs)

Yup. I took mine out after losing a case of eggs and a glass jar. Super annoying. It's like the Toyota engineers weren't thinking when they made this.

Think I'll invest in some type a "trunk" liner back there that has a nice lip or something to prevent items from just rolling right out.

Yea i almost always have that cargo net in that runs left to right in the back. I just wish there were two or three hooks or straps to hold the center down. I may have to make a little mod for that.

Still when i dont use it i always look in the back window and open the door crouched down to catch whatever starts to fall out. That little ramp is a good idea too when using it in double decker mode.

I have a Husky liner in the cargo area, no double decker system in my 4R. Nothing has ever slid out and fallen out when opening the hatch -- the Husky liner has a tall lip around the edge (2" or so).

I just got my Husky liner today. Looks like it should help.

I've only had a few things fall out on me. The worst thing was a six-pack of soda came crashing out in my garage. One can split open and sprayed soda all over the floor. Luckily it was that Zevia soda so there was no sticky sugar mess in my garage. After that, I knew I had to do something.

I've got the Husky liner back there. It's nice, but unfortunately provides no added grip. And the cargo net doesn't work in my truck! The hook it attaches to on the left isn't strong enough to hold it.
