After helping with 4-Ripcords SC install I got the bug to do something for my Runner....LOL!!!

I ended up cleaning my MAF and Throttlebody last weekend and then started looking at cold air intakes online.
Yeah, I know most swear by just doing the deckplate or elbow removal and keeping the stock air box. I have the
elbow removed on mine. I also have no desire to use filters that need to be oiled.

While I was looking at intakes I found that Injen has started using
the new Amsoil nano fiber dry filters. So, that caught my attention....

So, I ordered one of the Injen intakes and installed it last Wednesday
night and have been pleased with it so far. It's loud and you can hear
the air getting sucked through it at WOT. It also makes my Flowmaster scream like never before.

I like how they move the MAF up further from the filter so the air pressure builds up before it hits the MAF.
Also, it may help protect the MAF a bit since it's not right behind the filter.


So, now I also want to upgrade my Flowmaster muffler and get something with better flow and a deeper sound.
I'm pretty much set on getting a Borla XR-1 muffler and taking it to a shop for the install.
There are two choices with 2.5" intake/output oval shaped and then there is a 3" option for a round shaped Borla.

Here's my options:
3' - Round:

My question is if it would be practical to get the round one with the 3" intake/output??? Would it be possible for a shop
to adapt a pipe to go from the 2.45" to 3" for this muffler??

Cant wait to hear it! I have always loved the sound of the Borla mufflers.

That chart though.. I was all set on the Dynomax superturbo, but now I am thinking again. Do you have a chart with CATs too? I'd like to see how OEM stacks up against some of the high flows.
 
sweet man! yeah i still have my little devils advocate opinion on a CAI compared to the deck plate mod. I don't care what people say, i love my Volant!! but yeah! for sure post some videos of the sounds

how much was the intake?
 
All the CAI haters are just the ones who are mad they cant afford one.. like myself :(

A deckplate/ ISR and K&N do very well in the mean time though! I need to open up my exhaust for more flow before I open up the intake any more..

I messaged him a few days ago about the intake.. this was his response:

it was $257 for the intake plus one filter. Then I also ordered extra filters, the Pre filter and heat shield.

I don't have a chart for CATs most new aftermarket ones are high flow from what I've heard.

Stay away from the Dynomax Super Turbo. I had one of those and got rid of it in less than a year. I could not stand the nasal drone of the thing.

I was considering the Dynomax Ultra flow before learning more and hearing the Borla sound clips.

Borla, Vortex and Magnaflow seem to be the best sounding. I have read a lot lately about the poor quality of the Magnaflow mufflers but
there a lot of people really like them. I emailed Magnaflow about their CFM data but they won't release it.
Borla has the best warranty out of the three.
 
My bud Steven has that one on his tacoma, its not too bad. I have never noticed any drone from it, maybe it helps that his is dumped after the axle? I like how its quiet, nearly stock except for the low RPM rumble.

While I do like the sound and warranty of the Borla, I dont like the volume. That is what led me to the Dynomax again.

That's why I'm getting the XR-1 with the 16" long case instead of the 12" case that most get. It should sound a bit deeper
and not as loud.

With your SC I'd look into the Ultra Flow if you are determined to get a Dynomax..

So, after driving for 5 days and giving the EFI system time to get used to the new intake I'm getting up to 4-5 extra MPG on my 19 mile drive to work which is a long downhill drive from 5920 ft down to ~4900 ft and then up to 5300 ft in elevation. I used to be around 17.5 MPG now I'm in the low to mid 24 MPG range for the past 2 days.

On the long uphill drive home I used to average ~16.4 MPG I was at 18.6 yesterday. And I usually drive between 5 - 10 MPH over the speed limit.

Monday, I get the Borla installed so next week should be fun.....

And last but not least a new jack to keep in the Runner since my OEM bottle

It goes up to 21" so I can a least change out a flat if need be.

Score! I'm curious to see how that muffler sounds too.

Also, that is an interesting jack... I've never seen one like that before, it's like a jackstand made love to a bottle jack and.... badow!!!

Where you gonna put that sucker?
 
I got the Borla installed this afternoon.....I like the deeper tone at idle and it can be at bit louder than my old Flowmaster. It's kinda like the Flowmaster on Steroids...LOL!!!


It does quiet down when you are just cruising and not romping on the gas. But at WOT it does get loud - a Deep loud with a bit of crackle in it.

4-Ripcord I found a guy to do these custom installs not far from where I work. He charged me $140.23 with tax. He cut out the all the old crap from Midas and Meineke installs in the past and did a very clean job of it.

Are you going to post and pictures or a video? My truck just failed inspection for a crack in the muffler so I have to find one this week.

Also interested in a video. Not a whole lot of videos out there, besides LINY's. Been wanting to get a muffler and do the deckplate etc but can't decide on a muffler I really like bc I don't want it to sound ricey like a lot of v6's can sometimes.
 
I'm going to have to get some help with a video. I'll have to see if 4-Ripcord is available.

The Borla seems to be settling down a bit. It's really quiet today when cruising. Still has a nice deep sound compared to my old flowmaster.

It's not ricey at all.

It has a bit of a drone around forty mph when accelerating slowly and then settles down above 45. That may be due to the longer case. I got the 16" case #40942 and Linny got the 12" case model #40941.

At the earliest, I'm free friday afternoon and saturday. I am really wanting to hear this.

So all you did was the intake, muffler and the tip right? No resonator or anything else fancy right?
