Hi, Just came across this thread-- very informative. So just so I have this straight, so on the Input, you've installed CAI and on the Output you installed the Borla muffler leaving the stock headers, CAT, resonator and pipes.... After this you have a COOL sounding truck, more throttle response (I think you said between 40-70) AND roughly 2MPG better mileage daily driving??? :hungry:

Time for me to start saving my change to do this!

I've been considering the deckplate/isr mods but, really what's in order, is to significantly increase airflow-- straighter, bigger pipes. If you do this, then you must reduce exhaust back pressure with the high flow muffler... then pull he fuse on the ECU to allow it to "re-learn" these new characteristics.

Its been a year since you made these changes, any observations/comments on how it turned out ie. maintenance issues, costs of filters, anything?

No issues at all. I'm still using the original Amsoil dry filter and I've been thinking of putting my new one on. I got 2 of the filters when I bought the Injen system.

I'll 'vacuum/blowout' the old filter to clean it and keep it as a spare.

The amsoil dry filters cost around $55 (haven't checked price lately) and if I replace it once a year that is still in the same price range as replacing a Toyota OEM filter every 6 months.

If you are worried about cost just do the ISR Mod for starters.
 
I just wanted to stop by and say that my OEM Toyota Tundra chrome exhaust tip ($60-72 online) is still rust free after 1 year.


BTW, did you ever solve the drone issue?
 
I've had this muffler for a couple months now. I haven't had any problem with the drone. I'm not getting any drone at highway speed. I'm only getting a little bit at around 40, but it's not anywhere close to annoying.

This Borla is amazing with all the windows down, you can hear it roar so much more.

LOL!!!!!
So, is my Cherry Bomb tip.

The drone isn't that bad anymore but still does it around the 1800 RPM zone.
So, I either ease up on the gas or go a little faster...
 
resurrecting an extrememly old thread

Where did you find the CFM chart from your original post? Im looking at doing a custom setup and looking at a flowmaster Hushpower DBX but can't find CFM rates anywhere.

From the chart on flowmasters website its between the 40 and 50 but it would be nice to have a direct comparison.
 
Im really interested in getting that borla muffler. While im putting that in do you think its worth while upgrading the piping or headers or cat or anything else you wish you did with your exhaust?
 
You should have some kind of modification for your air intake so you get more air in too.
Like the ISR Mod, Deck plate Mod or get an after market intake system.
