My favorite part, he tried to pull the "can't find your keys" move. I walked behind the dealer counter and grabbed them.

I do believe that they broke the law in any form of prevarication concerning your keys. You should have immediately begun to call 911 about your car being stolen and held for ransom (new car deal). THAT would have made them unhappy.

I'm in the market for an 03-06 4Runner and have started the fun of dealing with used car dealers. Found an '03 Limited with 50k miles, some damage to driver's seat leather and light rust on the frame. They're asking $19k. I offered Edmunds "TMV" of "somewhere near $16k" (my softball to allow him room to wiggle, I would have gone closer to $17k).

Guess they were awful proud of it, told me they stuck to KBB Retail and wouldn't go any lower! What a joke....so sick of dealing with "dealers" that know less about cars than I do. All the salesman wanted to do was stare at the v8 and play with the moveable shelf in the tailgate.

Depends if you are in the 70% or 30% I mentioned. If 30, you're normal. If 70, you're probably both the words you mention.

Flyer you are a great source of knowledge! I've bought my fair share of cars but it still gets crazy with what actually to do.

I called the internet manager and spoke to him directly, he said the lowest they'd take for the car before they sent it to auction was 14,500 before fees and that wouldn't be for another month at least. He was very polite but I think this is probably no go, just too expensive for me but I'm gonna keep an eye on it for now.

I've only have my '07 FJ for about two months but some potential things may have come up and the possibility of having to ditch my car payment may be in the cards. Anyway, I went to look at a potential candidate I had saw in passing while I was down in cincinnati which was an '04 SE V8 4WD w/105k miles on it. Overall the exterior of the truck was in great condition, great carfax (minor accident but no replaced panels on the truck), has records, drove beautifully but needs a balance, brake job, and a TB WP job. I figured it'd be worth getting if the dealer would lower the price (they have it listed for $16,900).

I went in knowing what these go for (Bought my '03 LTD almost two years ago for 12.5 OTD) and asked the guy how much he would move on the price. He was eating lunch and didn't even get up or stop shoving his mouth full of food to talk. I told him what these were going for and he legitimately starting laughing at me and said it couldn't be true that I got one for that price. He then followed to ask where I bought mine and when I responded he snapped back that he did not care where I had bought it, he wouldn't be moving on the price at all ("they don't mark their prices up"...BS). I then proceeded to say I would keep and eye on it and be back when the price dropped to a decent amount...he laughed as I walked out the door.

I was irate walking out, everything I could do to not bite his head off...and I have a decent temper (work in wireless customer service). I'll keep an eye on the truck cause it's a good find but man don't ever laugh at me.

Rant over....was I that crazy asking for a better price??

Just messin... It takes one a-hole car salesman to stink it up for so many others. I've had pretty good luck minus one bad dealing. Of course, trying to pay paperclip prices for diamond items is not going to net you a "happy finish". :wink2:

I traded in an 08 Yukon at the local Toyota dealer, got the exact price I paid for it new on trade, a check for $7K, and an 06 SE V8 4X4 w 32K. Pig in poop! :lookout:
