LawnDart's Build Thread

I didn't get the swing out, long story but it's just not practical for my current usage. I know Ill regret it down the road but this was paid for by insurance so that's ok. I'm still looking forward to it, and the install, my buddy's comment "this will be way less technical than other things we've done, we can drink a lot more beer"!

:beer::beer:

The trimming of the bumper is sort of a bear, especially to get everything fitting right. But it's worth it. I love the swing away, it's great, but everytime you want to get something out of the back it's like, "ugh fine, gotta unlock the swing arm, swing it back, lock it out, make sure my tailgate clears...and now I can get my groceries out."

Yep, I didn't want that hassle while this is my DD. I figure I'll reread threads and write ups and should be ok, won't start the heavy drinking until cuts are made on stock bumper! May look to include the bottle opener idea in some way though!

Do it. AVENGE MEEEEEE!

But seriously it's a nice addition. I'm going to get some SS hardware tomorrow to avoid the rusting issue.

It's a nice bumper for sure. I may add some grip tape on the top of the bumper since it's so damn slipper #thatswhatshesaid

I'm actually going to swap them out to stainless steel torx tomorrow. The issue is they've already started rusting due to our epic rains.

Throwing out a bit of Retro FJ love...thoughts? Placement look good?

Yeah, if you use black steel, they'll do that. I tried those for the cap screws on my plates. Surface rusted quickly, swapped to stainless and never looked back!

That badge looks AWESOME on the CBI bumper... When [cough cough] that bumper makes it's way onto my rig, it's going to look real nice... On the right side... :bounce: Welcome to the exclusive club consisting of you, and me!

I considered putting it where you did but the edges were a tad sharp and didn't want to nick the paint if I ever wanted to remove it.

So to the bumper it went. But yeah I'll go get some stainless screws tomorrow. No big deal, about a dollar in hardware, and the local ACE Hardware is 4 blocks from my place.

Grip tape is a good idea, was thinking of how to minimize scratches in and out...

Red Dawn (original of course) came to my mind.

Unrelated but maybe of interest since I believe you got the duAlly Amber spots up front. Couldn't help it on a Rigid sale and upgraded to the D2 ambers myself. They are nice and definitely put out a lot more light, the pattern is good as you still get a lot of light down low but you also get spread and a little distance. If a deal comes your way, might be worth the upgrade if so inclined.

You know that my front fogs are Amber floods right? I'm adding a 30" combo rigid when we install my Pelfrey front end next month. This thing is going to have more lights than a Vegas casino.

But yeah going to add some grip tape or some rubber to the top of the bumper when I can.

Hahaha trust me I wish I had my snorkel this week. On the other hand most of that stuff filling the streets was raw sewage and I'd rather my truck not smell like shit forever.

I told my girlfriend that if I was there, the truck would be parked in an elevated parking garage, and I would commute in waders and a canoe. I can throw out the waders and the canoe, but I'd be damned if my truck smelled like shit for years...

On the flip side, it rained a half inch here in the Bay Area last night. Nearly drowned...

Yeah dude trust me I'm in an elevated garage. I was tempted to drive through those huge lakes till I realized it was poo water. I went through one of those on foot and my shoes still stink.

You boys need to move someplace better where that rain comes down white. Much more fun to drive in...

LD: I thought you had amber spots on the front, you have D2's or dually's? Also you have white dually's in the CBI right? Any wiring pics? (sorry to drone on in your thread)

If work takes me to CO I'd love that. I'll be at the FJ Summit for sure.

I have Amber D2 Amber floods, aka the "Driving" ones I believe. They're DOT approved, but just barely.

In the rear i have 4 D2 whites, two in the bumper, and 2 up top. I don't have any wiring photos but I'll try to grab some for you tomorrow.

The front bumper will get a 30" SR Rigid Bar, i.e the single stack combo flood/spot light. My amber D2s will go into the Pelfrey bumper.

They dont make the 16 TRDP in inferno, just mag grey, white and quicksand. [emoji30]

Well I love that the dealer told me he could order one. :moping:
LawnDart Thanks for all the info and the great thread. I can neither confirm nor deny that I may steal ideas for my (now) Magnetic build. :becky:

Yep, Tim (who's FJ troopy is second to none) asked if they could base it off my truck. I got some shirts and posters out of it.

Of course next month the drawing will be out of date when I get my metal bumper in front and snorkel.

When you get that snorkel nudge them nicely that there are others that are waiting patiently to give them our money for one as well...

I'd rock a tshirt with your truck on it... It's so flipping awesome!

Thanks, I'll be getting it installed first week of January, pics will be coming then.

How is the highway road noise on the Nitto Terra Grappler MT vs the stock Terra Grapplers?

I think you meant Trail Grappler vs Terra Grappler.

Honestly I find the Trail Grapplers quieter on pavement. They'll hum a little but unless I turn the radio off and roll the windows down I hardly hear them.

At slower speeds you'll get some vibration just due to the tread pattern. Honestly they've been great tires.
