Test drove one of these yesterday, first vehicle that's made me actively consider selling my 4Runner:

I saw one of these on the road a couple weeks ago. Made me think the same thing. Now I'm afraid to test drive one....

I just watched your instagram story. Crazy isn't it? All the options! I almost pulled the trigger on a '15 King Ranch fully loaded. It was $54k!! And no wiggle room in the price at all. It was gone the next day when I went back for a second look. The thing would even back your trailer up for you if you couldn't get it right yourself. I would have to buy a trailer just to play with that option!:lmao:

Yeah this one in the photo was 62. And it had to be shipped from Alabama I believed. And he paid over MSRP, which was the best price he could find.

Again too big a truck for me, but Ford just absolutely killed it on this. That's why I'm so excited for the new Ranger.

I looked at one a couple weeks ago (sshh, don't tell my wife) and they are pretty sweet. I'm curious if Ford figured out how to eliminate the fuel dilution and timing chain stretch? That's what was happening to my 2012 Ecoboost at 45k miles. Knocked like a cold diesel on a cold start. Other than sporadic electrical glitches that truck was fairly solid.

I hear Ford left some power on the table for those that like to tweak and tune as well. My EB would flat out scoot with just a tune, even though it weighed about 6300 lbs. After all the recovery gear, tools, mods, this Raptor won't be 800 lbs lighter.

I looked at that huge moonroof in the Raptor and immediately thought of all the problems it would probably have down the road. I'm not a sunroof guy at all and they can keep that trailer backup assist as well. I've been backing up trailers for 20+ years, it's not that hard.

Toyota could definitely use Ford's help with the integrated brake controller though as Fords is pretty dialed in and the one in the Tundra doesn't really work.

I just couldn't imagine paying $65k + dealer markup for a truck. A corvette, bmw, audi, sure thing but not a truck. Hell, not even for a diesel truck that can really do some work. Maybe it's just me.

Agree but wait till next year.. heard a lot of people have major issues with them. Transmission issues and whatnot. It is a big son of a gun. Maybe bronco?

Knowing what I know now I'd rather have a full size truck.

Right, as for size, 5th gens are the biggest they have ever been but small inside by comparison to a lot of other "trucks". Way back in the old days (1975) my dad built a shelf kit for the back of his '71 Suburban, talk about roomy, we toured the states for, well I can't remember how long, I was 6, seemed like all summer.

Ford continues to impress :)

I agree. A truck is just so much more versatile. The only catch with a full size truck is when going down tight trails but really the 5th gen is almost there width wise. The longer wheelbase of a truck can be a blessing or a curse.

The last 2.5 years is the first time in my life that I've been without a truck (well, that actually runs). I've made due with a light weight 16' trailer and, on occasion, borrowing a truck from my dad. Now his trucks are down for a while so there's been some increased pressure to get another truck but I've been holding off. It's funny how life changes though, 13 years ago I wouldn't have bought nothing less than a 1-ton dually. Now I could easily make due with a 1/2 ton.

So...what kind of plans do you have for it? Gonna leave it stock? :D

What if my intention isn't tight trails? I kinda believe the trend is bigger fullsize trucks since so much of overlanding is now in more wide open areas.

Because the tundra feels positively old and out of date and gutless compared to the raptor.

How so? I've driven neither so I don't know much about them but just looking at them online it's not that apparent to me.

Edit - Or, if no Tundra, why not a Power Wagon?

Screw an ecoboost...if you pay for people to fix stuff then go for it. If you plan on doing any maintenance/stuff that's gonna go wrong yourself, then forget about it. If you've ever read how to just change the spark plugs in a Ford ecoboost you would drive it off a cliff! I looked at one before I bought my 4runner after driving Chevy all my life and all I needed was the v8 to stay around, but they fuc*ed it all up with the ecoboost!

thissssssssss. wife drives the 4runner, i drive my 2011 pro4x titan. Ford interior is light years ahead of my truck. Even the new titans are about a year or two behind lol...but at least the titty can tow.

I thought you could still get the 5.0 V8 in the F150? Or are you referring to the Raptor? If so, yes I agree they should have kept the 6.2 V8 in the Raptor. The EB is just too complicated and scares me long term. Time will tell.

Spark plugs are very easy to change on EB motors. Even easier than a LS motor.

It's not that the Tundra is bad but it is dated. I'm really disappointed how Toyota has really just given up on the full size truck market and just let the tundra lingering out there. I'm not sure you could throw enough money at the Tundra to get it to feel as good as a raptor.

Power wise, the Tundra 5.7 feels about the same as the old Raptors 6.2 and MPG is about the same. Knowing how my old EB ran tuned, I can only imagine how good the new Raptors run. It's really far ahead of Toyota's 5.7 in power and the difference will be even greater at high elevations. Then there's all the extra little stuff, even on the regular F150, that's not even available on the tundra. Of course the price tag is significantly higher on the Raptor.

I've driven one 6.4 PW and I wasn't very impressed with the power and they get as bad or worse fuel economy than the tundra. Then there's the whole Fiat/Ram quality issue. The one I drove would randomly stall. I don't think the owner ever got that resolved and now drives a new super duty ford.
