LawnDart's Build Thread

With the Gobi Stealth, I think your baja designs 40" LED bar is straight. If you could do it again would you get the ARC (curved) one instead?

Nah, I think the straight looks good. Unless I went to a lower profile rack and then I might have done a 50" curved.

LawnDart are your sliders welded on too? Or just bolted in? I thought I read rock sliders needed to be welded on, but was wondering if I got that information wrong, and being you know your stuff felt you'd be best to ask.

Bolt on sliders will do. I may eventually weld them on but I had the truck on my right slider in Moab and held the entire weight just fine.

LawnDart... I'm not sure how much you have invested in that thing, but it's probably a good idea not to think about it....ever. You coming to the FJSummit? I'll need my wife to see mine next to yours for her to understand why I need what you have.

I'll actually be leading a few of the trail runs.

GLHF! Let me know when you get it done!

DO NOT SEEK THE TREASURE!

Lol, I have more mods to do on the trailer, but I'm debating what's next on the truck. My gorilla taped ram mounts haven't held up as well as I'd have liked, so I'm just gonna drill the top of the head unit to mount them, that may be a project for today.

Lastly, I'm debating adding a cell booster to the truck, some have said they're worth the cash, others have said they're snake oil. So I'm not sure who to believe.

Yes and No...

We had one in our 2003. It worked well in the Eastern United States, but out West it is virtually useless. You have to have "some" kinda signal to begin with. Also, the really good ones have noise filtration and amplification with a healthy price tag. My coworkers that are field guys can use them in parts of West Texas and New Mexico, but it isn't all it is cracked up to be.

...that is why I am getting my Ham Technician License. I prefer to not rely on the infrastructure of companies that only care about their major markets (nothing wrong with that - its business).

That's what I keep hearing, when it works it works okay, but it doesn't work that often.

Yeah kinda hard to boost a signal when there is no signal to boost to begin with... My Parents have to use one in their own house due to the geography of the town, and I still get dropped from their calls time to time.

I know it won't MAKE signal, it only boosts what's available. The hard part is it's a 500 dollar gamble. I don't want to buy a full on Iridium phone, but at least that's guaranteed to not be snake oil.
