Yep it's almost the same route and pretty much the same people. Good times.

Wish you and jon were here. It's so hard to describe this stuff. We're doing so much wear on this truck but this is amazing. When the raptors are giving us compliments for keeping up you know we're having a good day.

One of the top ten life moments happened yesterday when I drove under the helicopter that was about 4-5 feet above me while I hit a jump at about 70mph.

Thanks for the links!
About the Raptors...are most of them modified or are there completely stock Raptors running in the group? (when I say stock, I'm mainly referring to their suspensions.)

Have fun, be safe!

GOALS GOALS GOALS GOALS GOALS GOALS!!! I'm jealous. that looks awesome, soon as the 4runner is capable me and wife are doing a baja run.

Absolutely awesome man. This looks like a great time. However, when you're finally in Cabo and you are looking at the drive back to Portland, ouch!

4runners are capable in stock form :thumb:

I don't even know how many trips up and down that entire peninsula were made in a bone stock Nissan hardbody pickup.

Capable? Totally. At the speeds we're going? Probably not comfortably.

Total mileage will be like 4500-5000 when all is said and done.

yea i wanna be able to hit some spots with decent speed. Not full LT but at least uppers, kings, and hydro cans.

Two years ago Toyota brought three 4runners on the trail of missions. They didn't break down but I guess everyone got pissed at them because they held the group up.

We're keeping pace at least. We did have a slight break down today going out to the beach. The bandi mount for my air compressor puts the ARB solenoid manifold way too close to the secondary air intake sensor. And the engine at these speeds bounces and moves around so much the bracket chewed into the sensor housing and caused an air leak. This caused a check engine light and all sorts of codes to be thrown. So we had to move the mount around and cut it back and then JB weld the hole closed. It'll hold till I get home. The CBI swing arms need a major redesign. And the pelfrey battery cage has bent.

I'm going to be very honest here, this trip is revealing how "trail tested" is misused in the overland world. Because Baja has a way of acid testing everything. And to the harshest extremes. This isn't expedition overland where we're doing a few minutes of soft whoops to look good on camera. We did 10 miles of absolutely brutal washboards that shook the truck to the core. Just absolutely brutal.

It's funny you say this, people wonder why desert rigs cost so much. When you add speed into the mix it pushes things in new and interesting ways.

I'm honestly surprised you haven't had more damage, glad, but surprised.

Highly impressed Sir! These trucks are amazingly well balanced at those speeds. It's addicting. I have done short bursts at 50 to 60 mph for a mile or two on pipeline and PowerLine rds w my mid travel, but nothing like your insanity lol. Curious to know what the transmission Temps are at those speeds? Mine gets hot living in the power band. I guess your regear helps with that? Oh and How loaded down are these raptors comparatively? I know your rig is heavy. Thank you for the updates! It's a real pleasure!

Most raptors are carrying at least two spare tires. We've had a few flats in the group. One stuck in the silt. One jeep lost a power steering pump.

We're doing okay with the 4Runner. I definitely have some repairs to do this summer. I'm going to still try to make FJ Summit but the truck may just be too thrashed. I may go and just kinda limp up those mountains.

I don't mean to brag, but a 1000 miles of Baja is more wear and tear than some trucks will ever see in their lives. And keep in mind our group is comprised of current Baja 1000 racers and legends. So we don't crawl terrain. It's fast fast fast.

Disappointed the Pelfreybilt cage bent. It seemed rock solid (mine arrives Wednesday).

Very cool stuff. I'm actually shocked that the Jeeps and 4Runner have held up at all. I would expect the headliner, dash, body panels, etc. of the Runner to just self destruct under those conditions.

How modified are those Raptors? I'm not very familiar with them, but they sure look impressive and perfectly suited for that use case.

Surely you'll use this publicity to sell your Runner "as-is" in full battle-worn finish when you get back and replace it with a new Raptor, right? :yo:

LawnDart I do find it funny hearing people say they've trail tested their bulletproof setup yet haven't been out here in the southwest bombing across the desert. Overlanding is not baja prerunning...there are a few tundra guys with built trucks and RTT's though. DOPE! lol

um unless you're long traveled and spending a week in baja theres no way you're gonna have an issue with it. The issues lawndart is having is only due to baja. When you take a 100LB battery and throw it all over the place its gonna bend something

Most raptors that go on those runs have KINGS or Fox's all around (not the OEM Fox's) they also usually have hydro cans out back and reinforced the frame (unless thats not a thing anymore, they used to bend nicely lol) and thats the minimum. dudes spend 70k on a raptor and then throw another 15k at it in suspension:hungry:
