LawnDart's Build Thread

Good to hear the truck is doing well. I'd be interested in some
more info on the bumper issues though. The more I do this hobby the more I think I'd be better off with a very mild overland build and an Ultra 4 buggy.

I think you have a good point! If you want to run Baja all out then you need to build a rig for it or get something already set up for Baja. Otherwise a stock 4runner will do fine in Baja if you slow down and have the right tires.

Overlanding can be done in almost any vehicle as long as you take into consideration matching the speed and terrain for the vehicles capability. What I like about LawnDart is his willingness to push the limits and share the results so we all can learn!

Incorrect.

Overlanding requires certain modifications like Gobi racks, receiver hitch shackle, LED lights, and RTTs.

Without those it's simply off-roading and/or car camping.

Here ya go... I'm pretty sure all the accessories for overlanding are there.

where did the cbi bumper break? what needs to be redesigned?

I'll call CBI when I get home. Its not secret that I'll be switching to the pelfrey bumper when that's done. But after this trip I'll have feedback on their design regardless. We shook the truck so hard today I thought the windows were gonna break.

I also did a water crossing at almost 40mph that actually rooster tailed the helicopter and basically beat Casey Currie in terms of going big.

Nail in the tire today. JB weld fix to the sensor is holding. Not too bad a day. The roughest stuff is behind us.

I hope you take a minute to pause, take a breath and realize how cool this experience is. :pimp:

Think that has been evident...race to the mission..race to lodging, internet connection and beers!..race to the mission etc...

Brave man though with the heavy rear setup at those told speeds and conditions

Ill be interested to hear the deets my cbi should be here in a week or 2. :juggle:

I'm gonna give them my feedback. I think it needs a big t handle pin that basically locks the arms together into the bumper.

The latch sheared two hours into the trip.

Was your dual swing away CBI a one-off type run? I haven't seen it listed anywhere on their site.

Do you think a single swing away would have the same issue?

I think a single would have failed faster and more dramatically. If I didn't need to carry a spare tire I would have removed the arms completely.
