Are you getting a Pelfreybilt booty? They've teased that it's coming out, and I need to see it already!

So the current plan is:

1. Truck needs a major service. I think my drive shaft bearing needs replacement, either on the input or output shaft.

2. New Alternator, replacing it with a 160A model.

3. New fiberglass flares, and rear bumper.

4. I'm debating do an aftermarket rear axle. But really not much left to do on the vehicle. I feel I may have reached the point where anything left is me just changing things to change things.

Would you mind sharing how you attached your hi-lift to your swing arm in vertical position? I think that's a pretty ideal spot and it looks great there too.

Sorry I saw this last night but didn't have it in me to respond.

I think for my needs an actual truck with a bed is more ideal for my needs. Given that I think Baja will become a 3-4 time a year trip for me, for both work and vacations, the Raptor would be ideal. That said I do really like the 4Runner, it just feels ancient compared to the competition.

So lets excuse the whole raptor thing. I want to buy one, and plan to do so, to add to the 4Runner in my garage.

If I were doing things again with the 4Runner I'd have likely opted to do no roof rack and no cargo system inside.

I find that realistically I don't use my awning very often, and may take it off. It's a nice thing to have for those FEW times I need it, but it's really dead weight otherwise. At the very least I may flop it to the passenger side, as right now the truck is definitely heavier on the driver side (toyota lean, yo).

Outside of that the roof rack isn't doing much besides the top light bar and rear lights. I find top light bars to be great if you're the ONLY one on a dirt road, however I'd rather eliminate it since in dust it just whites your vision out. And again I don't know if the roof rack is really giving me much capability since I almost never carry anything up there. Last time I used it was to haul a TV I bought for my parent's new house this past christmas.

The cargo system is great but off road stuff bounces around inside of it. I haven't solved that, and it's a LOT of weight for everything.

I guess what I'm saying is, I don't really like the vehicles that have EVERYTHING crammed into them. At first I did, then I realized you can't really have weight/complexity and still have speed and versatility. Given that in retrospect I'd have kept the vehicle as light as possible.

I don't regret much, because if I did those items mentioned would be removed today post haste. However the reality is that the 4Runner is a very well balanced vehicle, it just doesn't make it super exciting for any one thing.

I'd like to revisit this. My 2 sons and I are buying a new TR and and want to begin our build, Isaac's truck and a couple others have been very inspiring!
I'm unabashedly trying to benefit from your experience!!
By this point I've read multiple build sheets on the Lawndart truck and I've lost chronological track as to where your truck has ended up regarding your suspension choices. I'm still trying to understand why TR builders are making the suspension choices that they do.
Building a TR for Colorado, Utah and Baja (albeit a slower tour than epic ToM but same routes)...would you recommend your current set up? Would you mind recapping what your current set up is? Any changes for next time?

It's not going to be dramatically different than what I have, it's just more refined because it solves a lot of my pet peeves with the CBI.

Long story short, okay it's not really a long story at all, but the federales are not the dudes to mess with. And they have a reputation for making people go away.

As I mentioned previously the helicopter acted as insurance for us at border crossings, but it also acted as a scout, because it could peel off, and did so many times, and ran up along the route to look for obstructions.

At one point the helo peeled off, and we hear a "Hey Cam, go to DA2 so we can talk in private..." (we operated on two unique VHF frequencies for our trip specific to Cam's race team), and of course everyone flipped over to hear the chatter.

"yeah hey we're seeing a federales truck up near the beach, and they look to be digging with shovels, I'd suggest we re-route around that."

Of course we all flip back to DA1. "Hey guys, so we're gonna take a detour"


That said, all the local cops were extremely nice. The military guys were pretty relaxed all things considered. The federales are just the dudes who are a little sketch.

Having my bumper being ratchet strapped together made for some tense moments because I kept fearing they'd ask me to open up the truck rear, which is a pain when the ratchet strap was literally holding our CBI bumper together.

So fun fact, I tend to over-think things, and this is one of those results.

Father/Son project, since my dad is a fine wood worker, and I've learned some of those skills. So over a week in Bend he helped me build this out of basically wood scraps. Ash and Mahogany cutting board for the Tembo Tusk Skottle.

Father/Son project, since my dad is a fine wood worker, and I've learned some of those skills. So over a week in Bend he helped me build this out of basically wood scraps. Ash and Mahogany cutting board for the Tembo Tusk Skottle.

A connoisseur would have all three for the various occasions life may throw at one. As I recently explained to my brother who drives a jacked up F-150, 4runner owners are not rednecks like you but rather aficionados of the outdoors and all that nature has to offer.:flamethrwoer2::flame:
