Leaky 4Runner - Help!

Hi all,

I have a 2007 4Runner Limited. Over the past several months I've noticed wet rear floor board wetness after a good rain. I've had it looked at by two different mechanics that can't figure out where the water is coming from. The sunroof does not appear to be the culprit.

I'm hoping there is an easy solution here... I love the car but don't love the nasty smell and mildew issue as water slowly dries out from the carpet. Yuk.

Here are a few pics to show the main area where the water seems to settle. A big puddle appears under the carpet at the rear/passenger belt buckle.

The carpet in the hatch area also gets damp. And so does the carpet in the rear passenger foot area.

It seems to me there must be a door seal or a roof top seal somewhere that has failed. I just can't find anything and don't know where else to look.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I would pull everything out, and I mean everything. Have a friend run water over the vehicle for a while in small sections to narrow it down. My guess would be the rear mounts for the cargo rack but purely just a guess.

Thanks - Just did a water hose test and it's definitely the sunroof. Water just pours in where the seat belts and rear seat latch come out of each sidewall of the interior.

The rear hatch also leaks a the top so that seal is bad/worn.

What a mess... love this car but this is a terrible problem to have. I've been told you can't just replace the sunroof seals - you have to replace the whole unit at $2500.

grrrrrrr.....
