Least ye think Arizona is all Desert!

Here's one of our favorite camping places up around Flagstaf. It's at 8,500 feet. You may think Arizona is just a lot of "fry heat," but we have some nice mountains too, not more than a couple hours drive from Phoenix. The temps this weekend ran in the high 40s - mid 80s.

In this picture we are camped just to the left of the meadow. Sparky, the wonder dog, is wondering why I'm not playing Freesbie with him.

Here's the Rig

The V8 4Runner pulls our current 2000 unloaded tent trailer up to this elevation with aplumb. The narrow, windy, dirt mountain road rises 2000 feet from the highway. It was the only place that my tranny cooler fan kicked on (except for Phoenix city driving on the return).

not everything is desert. Many parts are justr truly breahtaking. But at 8,500 feet, it does not take long before just tossing a frisbee can take the breath out of you.

Flagstaff and Sedona are my two favorite places in AZ...although im partial to any place in AZ after living there a few years.

For the 1st time

I was quite happy with the rear window spoiler. I watched most folks have a solid coating of dirt on their rear windows. As the pix shows, mine had just a thin coating of dust, which really couldn't even be seen from the driver's seat.

I love Flagstaff it is beautiful. Back in my college days we played football there every two years. Beautiful.

Told my wife Flagstaff is one of the few places I would move to other than where I live.

Yeah yeah yeah, it's not a 14er, but many folks don't know that Arizona has a 12,600 foot volcano!

don't think so - it's just a little runoff pond. There is water flowing above it, but it disappears into the ground - perhaps this pond is even partially spring fed.

Actually about 2/3 of the state is above 5,000 feet. There is actually decent downhill skiing in 3 areas. Although not to the level of most Colorado skiiing, the one slope east of here on the Apache reservation is pretty nice.

We spend a lot of time in 4 states: California, Utah, Arizona & Colorado. These states have the most amazing beauty & contrasts. (California in particular has it all, but I don't live there any more for a variety of reasons.)

But for anyone that's thinking of moving here - it's horrible! (we have way too many people coming now, so go somewhere else - jus kidding! sorta) :awais:
