LED Conversion, Broke something need help

Hello,

So I did my LED conversion this weekend. I was able to take out the instrument gauges with out any problems. I got some hot spots but I can live with that for the time being. What I need help is, that I broke the bulb for the power outlet/cigarette plug. But I couldnt take out the rest of it or what I think is the rest of it....

A replacement #74 does not fit in there properly

Also what size bulb is this??? This is from my shifter, Ripcords guide says its a 74 but I believe its a 194. I just want to make sure.

cig lighter you take the housing off a type 74 and put the leads onto the metal slots in your pic, test it, then solder it.

as to the shifter it varies in size by year.

it's definitely not a 194, here is a comparison of a 194 to a 74

the 74 bulbs are kind a weird. I think most of them take some work to get them to fit. They have for me anyway. I think the shifter has been the only one that has a snug fit for me.

that bulb looks like a 24 but i could be wrong. here is another comparison but of a 74 and a 24 (24 on the left)

Okay, first problem solved!

Picked up some 12VDC Leds from All Electronics in Southern California. They have built in resistors that work with 12V so no additional resistors are needed.

I was also able to change the light in the ash tray. I searched the forums but I did not see any detailed pictures or information in regards to the ash tray light.

There is a green, green/white cord that runs in to a black housing that attaches to the bare metal top of the ash tray. Just pull gently with some force and it pops right out. Below are some pictures. It uses a #74 (single or three way led).

I messed around with the defrost button bulb ( in the picture below, on the right ), I replaced it with a loose led bulb, it worked but the next morning (today) my battery was totally dead. All the lights were off in the car, but I am not sure if the bulb or how I wired it drained the battery.

Anyone have any more electrical experience and could tell me?

I wired the new led with the resistor R2, in a square type pattern. It worked. the LED came on when i pushed the defrost button.

But I believe this is not the correct method lol... if someone can point to me where I can actually by the right loose bulb/led I would very much appreciate it.

Hello again!

So I am almost done with the LED conversion...

I am a bit sad, I bought white leds for the turn signals and PRND2L but there appears to be a green overlay on the inside of the instrument cluster so it comes out green anyways.

it looks good man! did you get the battery issue resolved?

that sucks about the color of your shift lights, i could have sworn I had white at one time and it came out white. Is there a green filter you can remove? I know that's what the blinkers have.

let me know if you want me to send you a darker blue swatch, i think i have a couple left, they may be too dark to see during the day though. Oh and don't worry about paying for it ill just send them for free

All good man. I can pay for the swatch! But I really appreciate the offer. I want to find someone that can mold/craft plastic and just have them craft a new plastic face plate for the clock. I believe with that and the swatch I can achieve the color I want.

Now I am starting my retrofit project. After reading your thread on your retrofit I am officially confused.

With the glue and shroud and angel lights (hey i like them)...

You mentioned you needed to splice... but do I need to splice with this kit? It should be plug n play right? Also do I still need that black silicone? I got the gattling shrouds?

Nice man! That kit looks like the complete set. The only reason I had to splice was because I am running a different brand ballast. The connection for the hi/lo option had a different end, so it sadly required it to be done like that.

I needed to use the black sylicone to get the shrouds to stay on the projectors. I also used some to seal up the headlights again. Another thing that I would reccomend is glueing the first lock nut onto the back of the projector. The vibrations from driving may loosen it.

For the halo's you may need to splice into your parking lights But that's probably about it. Let me know if you have any questions about it, It's a great mod!
