LED headlight question

LED in high beam will result in non-functional DRL or lots of flickering. Only Diode Dynamics has a special module that enables normal DRL function. The module only works on their specified LED kit.

I am only recommending the Katana LEDs for low beam.

Xenon Depot makes a DRL driver for their 9005 High Beam LED’s that makes the DRL fully functional with no flicker.

Check Nineo from Amazon. Both 9005 (Hi-beams) and H11 (low beam) looks and works exactly the same as Supernova V.4 for the fraction of the cost. The color, beam pattern and output even drivers or wire protecting sleeves are identical.
I had H11 and 9005 bulbs side by side and the only difference other then price is the finish color. Supernova V.4 H11 is bright silver, where 9005 is also silver but has much darker finish. Both 9005 & H11 from Nineo are black.
Also, Supernova V.4 (Hi-beams) came with wrong locking ring with much narrower tabs where Nineo 9005 came with proper one matching OEM tabs (9005/HB3).

Have you tried these for your fogs?

No I didn't, got my Morimoto fogs before. But they should work. If you're buying from Amazon you can always return it ;)

If yall want some good quality leds/hids with awesome customer service and warranty, order these. They are also fine with the DRL's. I run their HIDS and Leds all of my vehicles since 2007. End of story. If anything is defective or goes out, they replace it with no questions asked. Super fast shipping and there are always coupon codes.

Nope. All good. Just make sure to adjust locking ring so LEDs are facing 3 and 9 o'clock.
Hint: the wire coming off the bulb need to be at 6 o'clock in locked position, I think.

It won’t even get to the O ring. It’s the metal housing with the 3 prongs that won’t even fit. I did an exchange through amazon so I’m waiting on the next set. Lights are super bright though so we will see if the next ones work

I am experiencing the exact same issue with my set of Katanas. The passenger side went on in 5 mins, no issue. The drivers side, I can't turn it to lock. it just sits there. Even with no o-ring.
Even put into the housing (held with tape), with the LED facing 3 and 9, the pattern looks like crap. Too bad. The passengers side is awesome.
Also expecting a replacement set but its too damn cold and snowy to drop in right now.

Did you get your replacement? did it resolve your problem?

I might go back to my XD HIDs and go back to getting flashed every other car!

Yeah you have to get a replacement set sent to you. They’re manufacturing process doesn’t have the highest quality control that’s for sure. I ordered through amazon and had to wait. I put the one that didn’t fit in the socket as best I could until I got the replacement bulb.

Replacement set worked perfectly fine. Weird because my passenger side fit wrong but the drivers side was perfect.

They lost my trust and the moment they said the ring their Supernova v.4 9005 come is what is suppose to, which is total BS since Nineo has a proper locking ring matching 4Runner headlights 9005/HB3. They shut the hell up and returned my money once I sent them a photo comparison. Not only that, because of it the bulb did wiggle in fully locked position.
Nineo bulbs are exactly the same for the fraction of the price Headlight Revolution is trying to sell their top of the line crap.
I'm not saying Nineo is superior to other brands but to Supernova V.4 definitely is.
I just saved few hundred dollars by switching to Nineo

Just put mine in and I'm happy. I used the rubber gaskets from the stock bulbs and everything is good. They're hella good imo. Let's see how long they last.

Hey,

I bought the same Cougar Motor H11/9005 on Amazon too.

Installed 9005 first as they were easiest, no issues. They run fine on DRL no flickering and the brights are BRIGHT!!!

As I was running out of daylight to installed I then went for the driver's side low beam first. I figured if I could get the difficult side finished first w/o taking out battery that the passenger side would be no problem. Boy, was I wrong!

The light just would not fit in no matter what I did. I changed o rings from stock light, I watched a video to make sure I wasn't missing something random.

I put the stock bulb back in just to prove I could do it, and then continued to struggle for 45 mins trying to put this stupid bulb in. I called my husband to come out and look at it. He struggled also, until we had a EUREKA moment!

He was holding a flashlight watching me try to install the LED bulb when he saw that there is a small piece of metal blocking the entry of the LED bulb housing.

Once he saw that, he used his grinder and barely shaved off 1/16" to 1/32" of the area I circled in the picture.

You have to line it up to see exactly which area to sand down bc the tabs are different sizes.

PERFECT FIT, and the lights are amazingly bright. :reddance:

Hope this helps someone else.

I’m glad they fit.....however, you should not have to grind metal off the headlight bulb in order to make them fit. Not everyone will have the tools to do so. I still think they should be made correctly from the start.

Sure, I know what you mean, but it’s a piece of metal on the 4runner that makes it not fit only on the passenger side. Eh. It is what it is.

You can buy sandpaper and just sand it down a smidge.

Personally, I’d rather do that than risk humidity issues in my headlights than by having to mod the dust cover.

To each their own. [emoji3577]

Finally got my replacement too and the weather warmed up past sub-artic so finally able to install. The replacement fit perfect and no issues.

So, word to the wise on the Katana's from Amazon. Great customer service in trying to resolve the situation but the quality control is DEFINITELY hit or miss.

For now, I'll see how I like them. Definitely brighter than OEM but not as much as XD HIDs. And since I already drilled the holes in my dust caps for the HIDs, I just ran the wiring and pack thru the vacated hole and can still use the dust caps. Of course its not water tight and hopefully they won't overheat being enclosed.

I’ve tried morimoto LEDs and the “cheap, but same as” Super Nova V4 LEDs in my 4Runner and they simply aren’t as bright as my HID kit. I never get flashed, have them aimed correctly, and am happy with the light output. No where as nice as the retrofit that I did on my last truck, but certainly good enough for now.

Little update.......bought the katana kit....one light fits perfect. Lines up perfect. The other does not. Switched sides. One light works fine. The other does not fit regardless of what you do. Will not for in the housing without getting stuck or having to pound it in. Should not be this difficult to install lights. I’m sure other kits from them have worked fine but this did not. Second kit I’ve bought and have spent $100 total and wasted time and effort into this for headlights.

So definitely purchase this kit with caution. Like I said, one fit perfect and was aligned perfect out of the box. The other doesn’t even fit at all.

i had the same exact problem with the cougar motor led headlights,.....driver side projected great and passenger did not. I bought some philips led fog lights and now it is nice and bright.whole setup 200$

Nineo led

Hi, Can you tell me if still do you have the Nineo led lights on your 4 runner? I want to update my lights but I am not sure If I want to pay for Supernova V4, please advise.

I’m running the katana kit from amazon and after a fitment issue in the first set the second set has been fine. You definitely need an adjustable beam on the light. Cougar Motor does not and they didn’t line up no matter what I did.
