led third brake light?

I have seen a few of them in the past custom made. Does anyone know where I can get one? I'm doing led brake lights, so I would like them all to match.

I upgraded my third brake light with a LED bulb replacement for the factory bulb. Are you asking about something different, suchas a complete replacement light assembly?
 
The ones I have seen looked like LED boards. Not just a bulb.

I have pondered this same thing. If I were an electric guy, I'd try building an led board to fit that spot. I surrender when it comes to anything greater than replacing electrical parts, though. :yield: I'm far from any type of electrical engineer or hobbyists designer.

There's this one, but I don't like that the LED's are only in the center and don't spread to fill the entire lens area.

Plus, I'd want to keep the OEM housing and lens and just replace the guts. I never think that aftermarket lenses look quality; they always look cheap compared to the quality of stock plastic.
 
Careful when replacing the lower brake lights with LED, I got some off amazon and they drew too little current and cause problems with the abs and cruise control. So if you get them they may/may not work the same.

The red lens ones with the 4 large LEDs is the closest I've seen to OEM short of making your own. I soldered my own earlier this year. Definitely a learning experience and took me a couple of afternoons. I would say it is medium difficulty. There were some guides I found from google that help calculate the resistance needed. I spent half the hours reading up on it and the other half doing the work.

I bought an LED pack, circuit board PCB, 12v Voltage Regulator, and Resistors to reduce the current in order to not burn out the LEDs. Basically, I cut out the PCB to the shape of the housing using cardboard cutout as the starting place. Then determined the array of LEDs desired, and soldered it all up and inserted back into the OEM housing. All parts can be sourced on ebay.

another idea is a JAOS spoiler.......
comes with a super bright led strip.

Resistors- the ohm rating of 47 ohm and 1/2 watt was calculated based on number of LEDs you're planning to use. I used this for 22 LEDs from an online calculators I found awhile back. I don't remember the link though.

For electrical wire, I used solid strand CAT6 I had on hand

I will try and give more details another day when I have more time on my hands. Again, all parts came from eBay.

The only difference in process is that he painted his board black and did not use a Sharp 12v voltage regulator. It's not necessary to use the regulator but cheap insurance because it'll keep the voltage constant at 12V despite the vehicle being 12.6v off and 13.6-14.4 when turned on. Technically, without the voltage regulator, I'd probably calculate resistors ohm required based on 14v instead of 12v.
