Led turn signal replacement problem

First off , I hate messing with anything electrical. I bought some led turn signals off eBay.

2PCS 12V 30 LED Car Daytime Running Light DRL Daylight Lamp with Turn Lights | eBay

I tried the yellow wire to the green wire on the turn signal ang the black wire to the white/black stripe. The amber turn signal worked fine. Then I hooked up the red to the side marker green wire and the light went crazy blinking and flashing both white and amber both. Not sure what's wrong here. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

That should be the correct wiring for that LED you got.
Was it just blinking fast? If you don't either have a resistor, or replace the flasher relay(much better method), you will get a "hyper-flash" on your turn signal.
Was it more erratic than that?

I have replaced the laser relay already. Yes it was erratic flashing both yellow and white. I have a resistor but am not sure which wire to hook it to.
 
If you take the yellow wire off, does the white light up constant with your corner lights on?

I replaced the relay with one I picked up st oriellys. I ordered the one you suggested and will see if this helps. If I take the yellow wire out the white light does come on.
 
Ok I found hat the resistor is spliced into both turn signal wires. Since the resistors get very hot, how did you protect the wiring??
 
When wiring use a test light and jumpers to test your circuits before tying stuff in.
How big of resistor did you use? They have ratings from like 1/2 ohm to mega ohms...
An LED compatible flasher unit should have fixed your issue (if you wired stuff correctly)
 
The resistor gets wired in parallel to the bulb(or LED replacement). Which means it gets connected to your yellow and black wires on your new led. Resistors do get hot, and that's only one of the multiple reasons I don't use them. You don't use resistors with that replacement flasher, as it doesn't function off resistance- like the OEM capacitive flasher relay.
If you have a resistor, you can splice it into the black- on one end- and yellow- on the other end- wires for your LED to see if that's your issue. The flasher you got from the parts store MAY be the root of your issue.
 
I been using a resistor for long long time. And it's actually outside of the truck behind the bumper. Everything is shrink wrapped, electrical grease. No issue. If you want to wire in a relay go for it. But for me, a simple resistor was perfect. It's 100% fine.
 
Well, I ordered the above listed part, and it came in a white box. There is also a inob on it. I've never seen a relay with a turn knob on it. What is the purpose of it??

As he mentioned earlier, to change the speed of the blinking most likely.

I'm more curious about this relay's location, does it not just replace the one in the footwell? Say I buy the turn signals OP listed, can I not just wire them directly into the factory wiring with an LED relay in the footwell? Or are things different due to these being switchbacks/DRL's? I'd like to disable my headlights as a DRL and have these operate instead.
