i'm planning to do the footwell light too, but i want to hook it up to the dome light. does anybody knows the wiring (under the dash) to the dome lights for 2005 T4R?

shouldnt it be labeled or in the manual? just a guess

i was going to say you should wire it also to a switch so you can manually turn it on but i guess if you wire it to the dome light you could use that as the manual switch.

When I added some to the Camry, I had to connect to the dome light terminals. There is something about how they are grounded that you can't tap into the wires under the dash (I tried several times without success).

For the 4Runner, I'm planning to connect the same way the running boards are done, since with the sunroof it's unlikely that I will be able to easily connect to the dome light.

Won't it be distracting to have extra light on while you're driving at night?

i just finished yesterday installing the leds under my seats to light the rear footwells. also i noticed that since im not used to the lights being there it is fairly distracting. Ive talked to a friend who said there is some technology behind red not affecting your night visions as bad as other colors. anywho, i loosely wired up the 4 leds under my footwell so they are dim and not as bright but you can still see some blue.

Im thinking about doing it all over again too but with red leds now and leaving the blue ones in so i can flip the switch and have the interior red or blue, just an idea.

Your friend may be right -- I've heard that red and green are not supposed to be as bad as the other colors.

This is why BMW used red interior lights for so many years. It is actually a safety feature.

In an electronics course a few years back I made an LED penlight from a cross pen. I chose a red LED for so that it could be used at night without without disrupting my night vision. It really worked!

I havent got the pics yet but I started with tail lights so far. I also got ambers for the corners but I dont think that they are as bright as the elements were so I didnt install them. the ones I bought have 5 small bulbs. Does anyone know if the large single bulb leds give off a fuller light

yes it does give brighter lights. but for me, i was such a noob when i first starting out using LEDs. i forgot to use resistors for my LEDs. so i blew 4/6 of my LEDs. -_- BUY RESISTORS FOR YOUR LEDS!!

I tried leds in rear turn signal. Didn't like it though. 1-Resistors required and 2- Red blinkers look cheap. I know They make em in Amber, but amber LED look almost like regular bulb when lit. Bout those ambient interior lights, I'm still researching it. Mersedes uses them in some of their cars. If I find a link I'll post it here.

buddy of mine was following me today and said my tail light look dim. Taking it as an unbiased opinion ( he didnt know they were LEDs) I think Im gonna go back the the element lights and use my LEDs under the dash

well, sometimes LEDs should mostly be used for turn signals or maybe reverse lights. for brake lights, you would need ALOT since it's the most important light you need at night plus daylight time also.

To use LEDs as brakes lights you either need to do the 06 swap out, like others have done.

Or do a LED retro, like I did using superflux LEDs. Superflux LEDs are made for automotive use, and have a wider viewing angle.

Mine have about 36 LEDs on each side.
