thanks, i need to move the strips slightly, then ill add the info in my build thread. the strips are called soft led switchback or something, $20 on amazon prime. basically its a double walled silicone tube with a strip of leds inside. they can be cut every three leds, and the tube is cuttable and thd strip just slides into it. i want to switch it to have it going along the bottom of the light. also i added a switch that allows me to switch between running orange all the time or white but the turn signal is still in phase and orange. also taking the corners apart kind of sucks, and putting them back is hard too.

I'm doing very similar to mine, only was going with bottom and inner edge with white. The continuation into the corner looks good though.
Do you have any more shots from a distance?

here, yeah im putting a big ass bull bar on top so you wont even be able to see them the way they are right now, im going to move them to the bottom, plus i think the bottom will look better any ways. and yeah continuing into the corner looks better imo than just going up the side of the headlight. ideally the corner and headlight would just be one piece of glass in a single housing.

One of the other thoughts I had is... Factory cars that have these are super bright during the day (DRL) and then when lights are turned oh, they go half brightness. I'm curious as to how bright these are, and if they are as bright as what you see on mopar vehicles, etc. I'm sure you've seen many.

basically those drl lights that are super bright are optically engineered to have a beam pattern that mostly faces foreward. these silicone tubes are translucent and do a much better job of evenly distributing the light to create a continuos looking line, but they diffuse the light evenly in all directions, and are not as bright looking for the same ammount of total light output. so they are great at night but if you want something for drls look for something else, you probably will never get exactly what you want unless you make them yourself from scratch, and you would need a lot of knowledge of optics.
the previous gen mustang has some really nicely lit running tail lights, but they have separate lights for the actual brakes. basically what im trying to get at is that you cant have bright perfectly diffused light without a bunch of led power, so most use some sort of lenses to make the light more focused, but it doesnt look continuous.

Its very hard to make the LED running lights to look good on older vehicles! Audi started the trend with the 2006 Audi S6 and since then all new cars have been adopting it.

Just an idea.
Get the switchback strips from Amazon, and make some kind of custom housing for them, and put it against the glass.
That should keep the light from spreading everywhere inside the headlight, and keep it more outward.
Or, paint the edges to match the color of your headlight housing, keeping a strip in the middle open so that the light can come out of that, and difuse a little, but no so much as it use to.

Id put strips in your headlights and do a retrofit if you cover the parts and send me a rear spoiler.
Sorry for hijacking the post, but I can't post a new thread and I need help finding a
TRD 7th injector ECU. Bought a kit off ebay and it had the wrong ECU. I need the
correct ECU for a 2000 4Runner- part # 00602-17620-265. I have one for an "01-'02
T4R + '02-'03 Taco #00602-17620-270. Willing to buy, sell or trade to get the one I
need. Maybe some one has one laying around they don't need anymore.

I've yet to see a retrofit on an older car using LED DRL's that didn't look out of place, or even ghetto

Looking for ideas. I love how some of the newer cars have lights that frame the inside of the headlights. I think this would be a great look in the stock 4Runner housings, but a full square maybe... You don't see indivdual leds, it's more CFL lookings.
Ideas on how to do this?
I actually was on the engineering team to develop these headlights. It was a hell of a lot of work! There's actually a fairly good chance I built the actual headlights in this photo if it's a Chrysler press photo.
I doubt you'd ever be able to get something like that in your garage. A lot went into those optics and once you have those they have to be mounted reliably in the housing. And fit the associated electronics and heat sinks inside a headlight that was never designed for it. Those headlights weigh 12lbs each!
The curtain rod idea is along the right path. They do indeed use acrylic rods, but they are highly polished and have very specific optics along the back side. You could probably make something up that "glows" but you'd have a hard time making it legal and I think the hardest thing to accomplish would be to keep the light going forward as someone mentioned. If it just floods the entire housing with light it won't look as cool.
