I've already replaced the antenna on my 97 Runner before, so I know the routine. This time, someone turned on the radio while I was out of the vehicle. I'm thinking that the castellated nut had vibrated loose and everything was ejected all over the parking lot. The toothed part of the antenna does not look broken or stripped, and I'm wondering if anyone knows the length of the toothed part of the antenna. If it's the same length, I can just reinstall. I did a search and read a bunch of threads, but nothing on the length of the nylon strip.
I'll still have to get some parts as all I have now is the castellated nut and the antenna. The black piece that sits on the fender is gone, and who knows what else. I just have a hole in the metal there. That'll mean a trip to the dealer for sure.
