At the recommendation from someone here on the boards, I took my NEWish (08 just purchased) runner to have a level lift installed because I wanted to keep the XREAS for now. I just purchased this vehicle 2 (now 3) weeks ago and the dealership Certified it. I am glad I got the lift so soon because of what happened next.
What was supposed to be an in and out thing has now turned into a week...and still going nightmare. As you can guess, the tech discovered the XREAS was leaking. On top of that, apparently most of the wiring harnesses have extensive rat damage. Thank Goodness my installer is that kind of guy to care enough and to speak up. I put too much faith in the fact the 4runner was bought certified and that the vehicle was perfect. I still have the paper plates even.
Thus ensued a week of determining who is at fault. Obviously the vehicle shouldn't have been certified under the conditions it was in, and was basically passed through their "rigorous" inspection without actually looking underneath the vehicle. The Toyota certified department wouldn't cover it because it was claimed too close to purchase and the dealership wouldn't claim because they said it "wasn't their fault". Toyota motor corp stepped in and forced the selling dealership to foot the bill for their obvious failure. We're now in a rental--a cute lil rav4 until Thursday.
So lesson learned.... Even though I'm not paying for repairs, the pain of being without my beloved 4runner isn't fun. I didnt think i needed to have it checked out by a seperate mechanic because it was certified by toyota but apparently i should have (like I would have if I was purchasing from a mom and pop). Atleast I get a new suspension, even if it is XREAS lol.
