Long story, kinda shortened for obvious reasons. I recently had my 05 in to the mechanic because I ordered new rotors and pads. Mechanic installs and the rotor on the driver side is almost instantly warped. come to find out, I have a seized caliper on that side. No big deal, he swaps it out and I go on my way. Now a sound is emanating from said wheel that almost kinda sounds like something is rubbing the rotor/pads, and it sops as soon as you hit the brakes? Took it back to the mechanic, and he checked the entire suspension and came to the conclusion that the warped rotor caused my steering rack bearings to wear out. I have done some research and can't find any historical data to back this up. I am taking it to a different mechanic tomorrow, just wanted to get some expert opinions from the site. Thanks!

What did he swap out after discovering the warped rotor? Have you tried taking the wheel off and turning the rotor to see if you can determine it for yourself. I had a seized caliper that I had completly locked down on the rotor and was not making noise after I swapped it all out. Note that I drove it over roughly a mile to a place I could work on it and the whole assembly was way too hot to work on for a good half hour.

Have you checked to see if your dust shield is rubbing up against the rotor? This has happened to myself as well as others, here on T4R.org. I did my brakes about 5 months ago. I did not realize how easy it is to accidentally "bend" the dust shield with my bare hand. When I was done with said job, there was a metal on metal "rubbing" noise which would stop when I depressed the brake pedal. Might be worth checking out. Good luck!
 
Took it to another mechanic today and they determined that there was hardware missing from the replacement caliper. Quick cheap fix, luckily I didn't fall for the shenanigans of the first guy, who I believe was just incompetent and not malicious.

incompetence is a rising trend... there is great value in a second opinion. good catch.
 
Did you take that info back to the original mechanic? Two reasons. 1: can't fix it if you don't know its broke = point out the mistake to the mechanic so he doesn't do it again to someone else; 2: ask for your money back or partial for shoddy work.
 
What part was missing from the caliper? There are really only a few possibilities and it's scary to think that any professional would miss it once (installation) much less twice (when you brought it back and reported the noise).
