Could have been a lot worse. My wife and kids, plus two adults in offending car were all fine. Four elementary school-aged kids were also standing about 50' away waiting on the morning bus. They were far enough away to not get hit by either vehicle or flying debris.
Visible damage to the 4Runner. Front bumper, passenger fender and flare, passenger Duratrac (bumper pushed into tire and it ripped enough to leak air), wheel well pieces, and bug deflector on hood. Hood appears undamaged. No other body parts I could see. A very large trail of liquid looks and smells like washer fluid, so I'm guessing the reservoir got crushed with fender. Maybe a little bend in the passenger side core support-couldn't tell as I didn't raise the hood.
Both driver and passenger doors are unharmed and straight, open normally and have uniform gaps. Hood and hood gap look good as well.
I'm thinking the truck looks great, considering the accident. So I get a call from my body shop this evening and their quoting me over $7000 in damage-which will probably total the truck. They say the passenger wheel looks pushed back some, so there is likely some addtitional suspension damage. They'll know tomorrow. That cost will almost surely total it.
The rest of the truck is perfect and my final check from the insurance company may not cover all of the needed repairs. I'm 100% sure I'm getting this fixed regardless. It only has 129K on it.
My ace in the hole is I ordered an Addicted Offroad plate bumper over the Labor Day weekend, so that cost has already been footed. I'm including a pic of the front end to show how little apparent damage there is and see what you guys think about the $7000+ estimate with additional suspension damage to be added to the total.
Sidenote- my wife said she barely felt the impact, but T4R wiped out the other vehicle. Spun it 90 degrees and threw it back a good ten feet. Something to be said for the old steel bumpers!
