Ok, so this discussion came up other places as well, but on my build thread someone mentioned this so Ill start the debate thread here.

All silver 4runners! EPIC! haha nice man looks great!

Ok, so the two on the outside are Millenium Silver. HOWEVER... the two on the inside are 1996 Desert Dune. One is mine, the other is Sn0wrunners.

Here is my argument. there is nothing about DESERT or DUNE that indicates silver. Desert Sand is tan. I should know my last name is "sands" and Im well aware of what the desert looks like! lOL

Furthermore Silver is actually the color of the limited trim on a 96 Desert Dune. As you can see... the color of the 4runner body "desert dune" and limited trim "silver" are quite different.

WHY do people insist that my 4runner is Silver? :shrug: it is TAN! :vader: and I will fight the dark side my whole life til every Toyota lover agrees! eace:

Oh, and I have more ammo, so go ahead, try and say its silver! :boxer:

I admit, pics are one of the worst ways to show this, and I looked for good pics of limited 96s and 97s for a bit.

but in real daylight, there is no question.

perfect example, this 4runner above is obviously silver and has silver trim also! Notice the fat lip bumper which means that this is obviously millenium silver. its got to be a 99 or up. Desert dune was a 96-98 color.

it is most obviously not tan at all. put this next to a pic of my 4runner like the one below....
the 4runner above is the exact color of the limited trim on Sn0wrunners desert dune. but not the same color as our 4runners...

Ok so you got a Desert Dune 4runner....ok?!... but really.... that color is not as common and is easier identified and interpreted by the general public as Silver..

How often do you hear people say...that's a nice desert dune truck?....ahhh desert what?

dude if your truck was properly covered in dirt / dust you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

Try having a black truck for a week. Wash it and by the end of the week it isn't black anymore. At least with some of the other colors out there you can go to the desert, come home and still recognize it. That said - I love my Black 4Runner!

That being said, every time someone other than myself has filled out paperwork identifying my Desert Dune 'Runner, they always list the color as "Silver". When I have to fill out paperwork, like a visitor's form or something, and it asks for the color of my Desert Dune, I just put "Silver".

The fact is, to someone who doesn't know what Toyota chose to call this Silver-Ish color, it's basically just Silver.

Isn't this a little bit like differentiating between an Peach and a Nectarine?

My Runner was dessert dune and ALWAYS referred to it as tan to anyone that was looking for me, for instance if i was selling somethinf and the person meeting up with me couldnt find me i would describe it as a tan 4runner.

So i think that there is a big difference from dessert dune and silver. Side by side in person shall make up your mind.

and no 'desert dune' was also continued on the 2000s. Limiteds often having the silver metallic cladding/flares/bumpers. In 2001 they quit making the color where Gray Metallic was lighter and Champagne Metallic was easily darker.

Just FYI it's called Warm Gray Metallic, it's a dirty ass silver. Get over it!

ever since the Millenium silver 4runners came out, people changed their talk, from calling my rig tan, to calling it silver...

my rig and tan rigs around the world are calling for justice, who will speak out for them?
