Let the Debate Begin...

paintscratch.com is not toyota... obviously...

and you are from arkansas.... ;):
so its hard to take your argument seriously! sorry, your argument is dismissed.

not to mention, the pics that Im gonna upload tomorrow are gonna make anybody that thinks that desert dune is silver rethink their stance. any of you silver apologists are gonna feel like an idiots.

Hey now.. don't make me bash on CO now. I actually like that state and don't want to point out YALLS flaws!

I don't think it's silver.. But just cus the outcome isn't SILVER doesn't mean that there wasn't silver in the mixture. I bet if you were to go to your local paint store and wanted them to make the best match of this color to paint your house in there would be some kind of silver in it.

Bottom line is, I like my color and if anyone ever asks I say desert dune :D

Just to quote myself,

As the owner of one of each color (Millenium Silver and Desert Dune) I can say that there is definitely a big difference. Desert Dune is definitely NOT Silver.

As a "Toyotaholic" I do agree with you.... Desert Dune is Tan, Millenium Silver is Silver. I just take the easy way out when dealing with the General Public and let them have their opinion and call it Silver.

For any non-believers, just go to google and image search "Tan SUV". You get all kinds of pictures of Desert Dune-ish colored SUV's. Google says Desert Dune is Tan. :p

WHY do people insist that my 4runner is Silver? it is TAN! :vader: and I will fight the dark side my whole life til every Toyota lover agrees! :peace:

Oh, and I have more ammo, so go ahead, try and say its silver! :boxer:

(this is a fun thread, dont take it too seriously)

Go ahead, call me elf one more time ... ... He's an -angry- elf ...

When I had my '96, it was Desert Dune, but looked "silver" to me.
When ever I would get touch up paint from the dealer, using the VIN, they would try to sell me the "Champaign" color.
I pulled up the carpet to get to fresh paint and to verify the truck had never been re-painted, the champaign was a totally different color. Didn't match at all.

The title and registration all said "silver" on the color.

On a side note, who cares what the color name is? My Imperial Jade Mica '99 is GREEN.

yours is def desert dune w the molding package. . . which prob just didnt come in that exact color. they are close, but different. IMO. its def TAN

It really depends on the lighting. When I bought mine it was at night at the dealership. It looked silver to me although the registration said tan which I figured was a typo.
To my surprise the next day it was indeed "tan" with the trim being silver. Now that the trim is painted black it doesn't look as silver as it did.
Now this should be what Desert Dune looks like!

I would agree with you except for the fact that I don't believe Silver is a pigment choice at your average paint store :biggrin2:

perfect example, this 4runner above is obviously silver and has silver trim also! Notice the fat lip bumper which means that this is obviously millenium silver. its got to be a 99 or up. Desert dune was a 96-98 color.

You need to check your sources. My '99 is a Desert Dune. ;)

Also the issue is lighting and photography. Nobody who's ever looked at my Desert Dune '99 has called it "silver." I call it "tan" though I suppose some might call it "beige."

But if you photograph it under cloudy or gray skies, it looks silver in the photos. Here's a photo of mine when I brought it home on a cloudy, rainy day in 2009:

When seen under bright sunlight, the "tan" color is much more obvious in photographs:

Ouch... sorry bout that. Its hard to tell from a distance honestly but up close you can notice the difference. I will remove my last post...

And for my defense i was on my netbook while "glancing" at it so its a 10in. screen so unless i actually took the time to look closely i couldnt tell. Now that i look at it i can notice the difference but you cant deny the fact that they are extremely close colors.

Hey I'll speak up too for us Desert Dune owners :D It is definitely a tan color and not silver.
What I find annoying with having a Desert Dune Runner is trying to buy a color-coded part online because everyone seems to think it is silver. When I had to replace a mirror there was always a conversation between me and an Ebay seller about what is Desert Dune and what is silver.

I have nothing to add....except that desert dune(AKA silver) was a 96-00 color

LOL know it all!

You guys are right about that, I thought once they made silver they discontinued the desert dune TAN. the fact that they made the two colors side by side even reinforces that fact!

BOOYAH! FTW!

I think we have enough Desert Dune Apologists now to redistribute the truth to the Toyota Universe! Go all you Desert Dune warriors and let everyone know that Desert dune is no redheaded stepchild to Silver and will never be in slavery again!
:thanks:

I passed one today on the way to work. In the morning it looked exactly like what the name is... like a desert sand dune color. I live in NV and see em all the time.

It's not tan and it's not silver. It's hard to get an accurate name for it.

One of my buddies actually said mine was silver today. I think more people would say silver than tan.

I have an accurate name for it. Duhockey's is definitely pink.

:zoom::bluejump::lookout:

That's funny. I was just driving back from lunch and spotted another one. Was thinking the right name might be Desert Rose... aka pink.
