Not sure about you guys, but IF i had to do it all over again (e.g. buying a new home), i would set my system up in my family room. Having a dedicated theater room is nice, but not practical. Most of my time is spent in family room due to kids. So, i rarely go up to my theater room much...maybe when the kids are older, i will enjoy it more. But, for me, i would gladly concentrate on setting up a nice family room system with my speakers.

Don't be jealous...and disregard all the Christmas stuff and DVD stand, the tree pushed it over...my wife goes crazy with Christmas decorations.

I have a 50 inch Panasonic tv that I got new for $300, and I have a total of about $40 into my speaker setup. I have a 7.1 sony receiver that I got for free from points I earned at my old job. The 5 tiny speakers and subwoofer are some no name brand that came with a DVD player I got for around $40. And I have two big speakers setup in the front bottom by the tv that were from a stereo I got when I was like 10 years old. It works good for me because I live in an apartment and don't need or want to be overly loud and piss off my neighbors.

I am still trying to figure out how you got the TV up there!

Just a simple swivel mount...slightly bigger then this one.

If you can see, I had about 4" between the window and corner, all solid wood. Two lag bolts holding the mount up, it'll hold me and I'm 240.
I did it like that to keep the viewing angle for everyone on the couches, as well as the kitchen.

I need to add a soundbar though. The computer speakers can only be adjusted at the base, so we rarely use them. Because the tv is in the corner, and the speakers are at the bottom, a lot of the sound is lost. Figured I'd mount a bar across the bottom of the tv, just fab up some brackets. Anyone have a good recommendation for one?

A friend mounted a sound bar to a "floating" TV like that with some of that L shaped perforated metal you see most often holding garage door openers. A few tin snip cuts and bends on a vice and you're in.

Some of the modern sound bars can be really nice. Sony and Bose in the $1k range sound amazing.

Ya those are the kind of brackets I was talking about. Figured I'd attach in the back where the TV mount attached to the TV.
I've found a few soundbars around $250-300...thats about my limit. I don't need the greatest ever made, just something better than what we've got now.

15 year old Yamaha RX-V795a receiver with 5.1 dolby going strong

15 year old Definitive Technology speakers with 5 satellites and 1 powered 8" sub with a crapy 19" TV with built in DVD

Right! My dad keeps trying to push this 52" box on me when really he needs to push it to the curb. I had a 65" Toshiba box lcd, hilariously huge.

My 36" Sony Wega on the custom Sony stand was my favorite tube tv - thing was a good 400 some lbs I feel like.

This adds to the 46" Sony in the main living room,32" LG in the bedroom, a 32" CRT in my office for VHS viewing and a 15" flat CRT on the back patio. Probably too many TVs.

Very tempting to pick up these TVs for my theater room. I skipped 3D technology. I am thinking of getting 4K TV when prices become more reasonable. But, these current TVs are getting cheaper and cheaper by the minute...not sure that i can wait that long!

I thought 3D is a bit overrated but still wanted something full featured and the Sharp fit the bill and the price was nice. It's the LC-60LE750U which is basically the same panel and features of their 8 series without the 3D. Thai,what is your main screen right now? 4K is going to be sweet but I'm sure that's a ways away for me.

Thai,what is your main screen right now?

Sony 52" XBR3. It is old. 1080p and i think 30Hz refresh rate! So, for my Apple TV to work, i had to downgrade Apple TV output to 720p. Apple TV does not have a selection for 1080p 30 Hz refresh.

I like the idea of having a nice 2.1 setup in my living room but I can't quite figure it out.

Ex: I could go powered monitors but then I wouldn't have volume control.

I could go Bose 2.1 but then they have their own silly volume control where I couldn't program my remote to control it.

I don't want/don't have space for a full size A/V receiver.

Aesthetics are important to me and it's an open shelf.

I'm considering I guess one of the Marantz slim line receivers and a nice monitor/bookshelf style for down there but haven't researched the speakers at all.

I'd love the look of a vintage Marantz tube receiver but again with the volume control.

I'd like to try one of those 2.1 soundbar/sub setups in my upstairs living room, the speakers on the 46" Samsung LCD I have there suck, they resonate at certain frequencies if you turn the volume up too high. I saw a really nice wall mount with provisions for a soundbar underneath the TV at Costco on the weekend, might have to pick one up and a soundbar setup after Christmas and see what it's like. My upstairs is a strangely shaped room where a traditional seperate satelite speaker setup would never work properly anyways.
