Let's play a game, where did this bolt come from

It is either one of those 2 bolts or one of the bolts from the plate behind the cam pulleys. There are no other bolts like that, except possibly the one that holds the dipstick to the alternator bracket, or the one that holes the harness bracket to the alternator. Due to the fact that the plating is not pristine in color, that bolt was probably not underneath the cover at any point. I imagine it has been jammed up in the back of the crank pulley and finally found it's way out.

The bolts are from a "clean place." They are not covered in oil or anything like that. you might be on to something with the Cam plate. I will check that.

That's your 7th fetzer valve bolt. To fix it you'll need some pliers and set of 30 weight ball bearings.

Thats a feature right?:boxing:

So I found it. Good call on the plate behind the pulley.

If you look real close, the other bolt is pretty banged up. I bet the bolt was just flopping around in the pulley. I think once I shut it down, the bolt would settle at the bottom of the cam pulley. Then once i started the engine, the bolt would bounce around until the rpms got up high enough for it to be centrifugally forced to the outside of the pulley and then was quiet. The other bolt got knocked around on start up.

At least it is mostly a non-issue. I will grab a new bolt and slap it in. I think i am going to take the others out and put some lock-tite on them as well.

Thanks for all the help!

The don't need loctite...they just need to be tightened properly. I've probably done 100 plus cam seal jobs and never once had any of those bolts loosen on their own. My money says they were never properly tightened...check the rest of 'em.

That's the plan, I don't remember taking those bolts out, but the timing job was done by your's truly.... I will be checking them all. Do you have torque spec on them by chance?
