Pretty much any design has it's pros and cons. It's just a matter of figuring out what fits better for your situation. I still gotta get under there and look some more to see what would be better. I think you got a pretty solid design though. Having the single plane style would be even easier to duplicate after destroying it. We'll see. I appreciate your input! It helps me think outside my own little box haha.
Also, have you done anything for tranfercase and gas tank? T-case will be easy but gas tank will take a little more design work.
For my design the transmission panel wouldn't be all that hard to duplicate either sense its just a square panel and the front one is all flat panels that are welded together but suppose it would be a little more work.
So far I havent done anything for the transfer case or gas tank. Partly because I didnt have the material and weight. Looking at the transfer case area though there isnt really much to get hung up on and since I have built a poly mount for the transmission all that stuff is pretty solid. So if I were to do anything I would probably make the same design as the stock on just a little larger and beefier. At most I would make another smaller panel like the transmission and not go full width.
The gas tank I would like to do something with since the stock plate is pretty much useless. But again thats a lot of weight for how little I ever hit it anyway and I have seen how a lot of people with the heavy duty skids get a lot of driveshaft contact and checking with my current stock skid the driveshaft is just a hair away from contacting now so I would need to put some thought into how to make even more clearance. Id say as I start doing harder trails and hitting it more I will inevitable need to look into doing something there, perhaps something more like the 5th gen skids that are just on the bottom with much shorter sides.
