Let's talk beards

So, I'm 21 days into my first beard. I can finally let one of these fly and I'm going at it full force. I'm 38 years old and dammit, I want a beard!

So, what is everyone using? Conditioners; balms; combs; etc, etc.
Any bad experiences?

Oh, and post a pic of your beard.

And ignore my broken ass nose. It has had an extremely rough existence.

Had a goatee since I graduated highschool and had a beard for the last year. I hate shaving is the main reason I'm growing it. I use a wahl beard trimmer to keep it neat. Otherwise I just wash it with the same shampoo I use on my hair and some cheap comb that has a fine tooth and coarse tooth combined.

November 2013 beard and an early start on the 2015 beard. gotta get ready for duck season! like cashmoney said, just shampoo and beard comb. I'm going to start looking into beard grooming more tho...

I just started to grow mine out for the upcoming winter here in CT.

I try to grow one every year. I don't let mine go too nuts. I keep it trimmed as well with a Wahl trimmer.

I picked up a comb at Target.
For the past 1.5 years, I've been buying my beard oil (he does sell balms too) from this guy in Vermont. Makes it himself. They are reasonable priced and smell good too!

I can tell a difference after using an oil that its feels a lot softer and seems like it doesn't all mangled up too..

I don't have a picture from last year on my work computer, will have to see if I have one at home of me..

I just ordered a coffee scented oil for the future. It will be a little bit before I have to use it, but I might use a drop or two just to keep my skin conditioned and help with some of the minor itching I get from time to time.

I've had one since the late 90s. Had to shave for boot and tech school. Once operational I was able to grow it back
I just use shampoo everyday.

I vacillate between full beard and goatee depending on motivation. The beard is salt-with-a-dash-of-pepper and I keep it short using Wahl clippers and a 1/4" comb. I let the 'stache and soul patch grow out. Usually use clippers only on the noggin but will occasionally take it all off with a triple-blade razor and conditioner, which works better than shave cream.

I have this issue that I can't quite force myself get past the "child molesrer trailer mark scum" beard. Mine isn't super full, and it grows in strawberry blonde/brown.

Right now I'm about 18 days into my beard, once I hit about 30 I won't be able to stand it. My 30 day beard looks like half of what yours is. My hair grows fast, it's just don't dense on my face

Im 39 and sometimes you just NEED a beard, lol. I can grow mine in about 2 weeks. I dont let it get too long, my wife wont let me but i do try. Its funny when the wind blows and I can feel my hairs on my cheeks kinda 'flutter' like. I usually just use the same shampoo and conditioner that I use on my head on my beard, it seems to do the trick. I hear about balms and such but it just seems unnecessary to me.

Same here my man. I just look like I need to wash my face...its patchy at best. Although I am currently letting it grow because I got poison ivy on my face and its so bumpy I can't shave!

I've had one since the beginning of the summer. I just use the same shampoo and conditioner I use on my hair and "Simply Great" beard oil. That, a plastic fine tooth comb, a Phillips trimmer, and a pair of hair scissors. I go with the grain on mine to leave it a little longer and since mine is kinda curly and dark colored which is ironic, considering I have straight blonde hair... The itchy phase is the worst and very irritating. After that it's smooth sailing though. Can't wait to try it out in the cold this winter haha

I've had a beard of one sort or another since I was 20. I've been growing it out to a proper bear-killer for about a year now. I've found that short beards don't need anything, but once it starts getting longer and fuller I need a beard conditioner to keep it from fuzzing out. The best one I've found so far is Honest Amish, but Professor Fuzzworthy works pretty good too.

mine isn't patchy, it just isn't dense and the color is not desirable. the only part place where i don't have coverage is my mustache doesnt connect to my cheeks. its only about 1/3 of an inch wide gap and would be easily covered up by longer beard.

i guess I'm just a puss

Been wearing it like this for perhaps 30 years - Sometimes a little bit longer.

Don't do anything special to it except for trimming - clippers, razor, scissors...

Started out brown - now almost pure white......

Trim the beard about once a week; eyebrows a couple times a week!
