Let's talk beards

I've had some form of beard off and on since I was 18. My chin hair got so thick that shaving with a razor was painful, so I stopped. It varied for years from clean to full to mustache and back until goatees came back in style some time in the 90's. I grew a standard goatee+mustache (sometimes called a "circle beard") and it's stayed the same ever since, except twice I've had to shave for safety reasons (some power plants have hazardous chemicals on site and require a clean shave for emergency gas mask fit).

No special maintenance. Wash with shampoo and/or soap. Trim with the trimmer on my electric razor, occasionally doing a full pruning with a Wahl trimmer with a guard. I'll try to get a pic posted when I get home.

I hadn't shaved in a couple weeks before my accident and now that my finger's healing up I'm a bit stuck with my beard for the winter (at least until I can use it a bit better.) I can't get a good shave with an electric razor, even using products like Lectric Shave; it pulls and tugs at the hairs more than cuts it seems (even my beard trimmer needs a few passes to get it tamed to a shortness I can shave with a razor.) I have a bit of a tough time shaving with my Proglide under my chin since the hairs are coarsest and grow in whichever direction they feel like it seems (I have been thinking about trying a safety razor or maybe when my hand's all good a straight razor.) My beard grows in a bit fast (Eastern European blood I guess?) and thick after a few weeks, very heavy around the jawline (I'll see if I can snag a picture tomorrow in better light.)

Most of the time I'm running a "circle beard" with a short-ish goatee. I don't usually shampoo it or condition it, though if I do; I just use whatever I am using for my hair at the time. I haven't had too much of an issue with it being stiff/prickly (at least not after the first mm or two,) but it seems nice.

But my brother is getting married and his future wife asked me to shave it off...not happening. But I was kind enough to go to the barber, a good buddy of mine, and get it cleaned up for the wedding.

I'm on day 28 now and all is well. I haven't shaved it off. I've gotten a lot of compliments off of my beardage. My wife is coming around, but still will not kiss be because of "all the pain".

Oh, and beard oil from Thunderbeard Products is the bees knees.

My old friends call me red...

Shit happens...

Had a beard since I was in the military, actually my last 6 months in the military...My long hair, beard, Hawaiian shirts, shorts and flip flops at muster, kinda pissed them off after awhile, riding up on the Harley...priceless.
