Let's talk tires real quick...

So I was having too much camping fun this weekend and took a sharp rock to the sidewall of my tire. Riding on the spare now, but need to replace at the very least one tire. Probably going to do at least two. I don't want to mix and match tires so I am also taking the "opportunity" to research some other tire options as well if I were to replace all 4. Just got the truck in October so I haven't put a ton of miles on the Michelins that were on it when I bought it and don't have anything to compare them to, coming from a Honda Accord. They just passed inspection last week, so they're not technically in need of replacement, but they are starting to crack a little bit and probably have less than half of tread left.

Anyway, if I replace all 4, what would you guys recommend for someone who is not lifted (and has no plans to), drives the 4Runner as a daily driver, and is not likely to ever wheel in the sense that a lot of people on here wheel. The extent of off-roading I do is rough fire roads and camp roads when I'm camping, biking, kayaking, etc.

Would like something thats:
Good all year round in rain, snow, etc.
Quiet on the highway
Long tread life
Can handle going "off-road" on the very few occasions I use it off pavement

If I don't want to replace all four, anybody have any good or bad experience with the Michelin Cross terrain tire I've linked below? Thats what I've got now. P265/65R17 on a 2004 4Runner 4x4 Limited.

Sorry for the long post, but I need to make a quick decision and would like to make an informed one. Thanks.

I have the michellin LTX and they've been great. They do well enough offroad and they're silent on the highway and my last set went to 90k. I want an A/T tire now now though.

Any interest in buying mine? They have plenty of tread left and I could sell you 4 for the price of probably 2...

How old are they, how many miles do you have on them, any repairs to them? And of course, how much? Also, how far are you willing to drive? I don't intend to drive down to DC with no spare. God forbid I got another flat...I'd spend enough on a tow back to buy 2 sets of tires.

Idk if my PM worked or not. I'll get back to you with my thoughts because I have a road trip planned for end of July and would need them before that. Not counting it out yet though...

Walmart sells the Wrangler Authorities. They are like $156/tire or something. Very nice all terrain tires. I've only run them and BFG AT since I inherited the truck, and like them a lot more. They have a bit of a groan down the highway, but handle dirt roads and snow great. They also look really great, and have a deep tread pattern. Very happy with them, and that's not including the fact they are really cheap (they are Walmart exclusive, but still Goodyears). I'm running them in 31x10.50.

Yokohama geolander AT/S. excellent tire, rides great on the pavement, yet has the ability to go in the dirt and perform well. Have taken mine to baja multiple times and they performed flawlessly.
The AT/S does not have that aggressive off road look, but will still out perform a lot of A/T tires.
 
Toyo Open Country AT II are nice tire a few other toyota guys around here are running them and I'm looking at them for some new shoes for the 4r come fall
 
I'm in a similar place and wanting to trade my factory hwy tires for something a bit more aggressive. My last truck (FJ Cruiser) I had bought BFG ATs and of course great for off-road, but added a little noise on the highway.
Therefore, I havent' decided yet but been looking hard at BFG "Rugged Terrain" tires. they have a great rugged look to them but I'm told they're relatively quiet on the freeway- more so that the BFG ATs...
 
Pulled the trigger. Just put an order in for 4 new Michelin LTX M/S2's. Of the three remaining tires I had, the one with the most tread (5/32) was from 2003! That would make it original equipment for my 04 and that means its got over 100,000 miles on it. Maybe it used to be the spare? Who knows. Anyway, glad to be getting a new set of safer, quieter tires. Not thrilled about the $860 price tag, but such is life...:doh:

All I can say is wow. Just got the tires on this morning. I never realized how LOUD my old tires were! Got the Michelin LTX M/S2's and my god are they quiet. Literally, no road noise whatsoever. Super happy with the decision so far. Also, the service manager at my dealer (Sloane Toyota Scion of Devon) is going to do a transmission flush, p/s flush, and brake fluid flush all for the cost of parts ($178) as courtesy because I just bought the truck in September and had to replace the tires so soon. He's also going to do a four wheel alignment for nothing at all.

If you're in the Philly area go to Airport Discount Tires and ask for Greg. They're in Essington, PA. $800 cash out the door, plus $25 in free gas for what others wanted $1150 for. Waxed and detailed the truck yesterday and installed my new LED tails, so after my appointment at the dealer on Monday it'll be like brand new!
