Let's Talk Tires...

The Firestone Destination AT's are a good choice. I have had them on for about 3 yrs and they have been great. I can't think of any negatives. The price was right, they are very quiet and have great traction on the road, wet and dry. They are also pretty good in the snow and slush. I haven't tried them in extreme off roading or deep mud, so I can't comment on that. It is between these and Duratracs for my next set.

Agreed. My dad has ran the Destination ATs on his Tundra for about 5 years now. I use how truck from time to time and have always been impressed with the tires. Excellent on road and do wheel for light off road use.

I put Duratracs on my 4runner about a month ago. The Destination ATs are smoother and quieter on road. Traction is great with either. Duratrac, by design, is better off road, but the Destinations hold their own.

Hard to go wrong with the Destinations.
 
I just put 265/70/17 Destinations A/T on a stock '07 SE. First rainy day today to test them, only 40 miles do far around town.

Also, consider this: Michelin makes the tires for ALL Airbus jets A319, A320, A330 (one of my fav jets btw) A340 and A380 as the OEM tire AND they also make the tires that are OEM on many Boeing jets fresh out of the factory......B757, B767, B777.

Yes, you will pay top dollar for Michelins, BUT........you will get what you pay for too:beer:

I had the BFG's on my Jeep Wrangler back in the day, and they were OK, but wore down fast (50K) and were good in snow, but not good in rain at all.

how are the michelin LTX AT2's on highway and is it quite (good rolling resistance)? Thanks
 
No one mentioned Hankook Dynapro ATM...interesting. Best tire I've found so far for my on/off road vehicles....and they are quiet too!
 
You're going to find as many different opinions as there are posters.

I've had some great tires from all different tire manufacturers. I've had some clunkers and I try to avoid them.

My current favorite tire manufacturer has been Cooper. Been using them for 20 years now...and never had a problem with any of the 10+ sets I've owned. They are American made (one of the few). And their price is very competitive.

I use to buy Michelin...but in the past 20 years (and even more so in the past 10)..their prices have really increased. I don't know if this is some sort of tax or because they're popular.
 
My summer tires are Michelin CrossTerrains. They've worn really well - I've probably got 70k miles on them. My 4Runner came with Dunlops and I hated those - they wandered terribly on the highway. In the winter I run Nokian snow tires. All season tires just aren't that good in the snow.
 
I have michelin latitude HP tours on my 4runner, thats what was on it when I bought it and I was seriously thinking about buying some A/T tires before winter came because I was afraid the michelins would be terrible in the snow but honestly with the full time 4wd and the VSC and all the technology in the 4runners, you could easily get away with an all season. I went out a few times this winter after a fresh dump of snow and messed around and it was hard to lose control of the 4runner.

This is the general opinion on these tires, but my experience wasn't so positive. I hated them, replaced them about a month ago even though they had over 50% tread left. My duratracs are way more aggressive but yet quieter. The ATMs sucked in the rain, felt like driving on snow. Duratracs are night and day different. A lot of folks really like the ATMs, but you couldn't give me another set.
 
I have gone from a set of Nitto Terra Grapplers to a set Cooper STT then to a set of BFG KM2's and now a set of Good Year Duratracs.:artist2:

Nitto TG all around good tire I have taken in sand, mud, snow and dirt terrain and it did well in all terrain and they are quiet.

Cooper STT great MT for dirt, mud, snow and sand but not so good on icy roads. Medium road noise.

BFG KM2's again great MT for all terrain especially off road in all terrain. Medium road noise also.

Good Year Duratracs great all around tire for dirt, snow and mud terrains. I have not tried them in sand yet though. Road noise very low.
 
*Little Update*

Thanks Everyone for the valuable information on tires.

Just this afternoon as I arrived home from work my Dad surprised me with a purchase of a new set of Destination A/T's on his 4Runner.

I took it for a ride and WOW, the ride is SO much quieter. And not to mention how much softer the ride is with all the potholes.

So far, these tires were a GREAT investment that he has made.
