Leveling kit effects

With my GYSA 265-70-17s, the "squashed front" look is much more pronounced. I was thinking more of a leveling kit that puts a 1" spacer in the front. I really can't do any more than that (or anything in the back) otherwise I cannot get int the garage with a kayak or a ski box on the roof.

Will that 1" spacer do the trick?
How will this affect ride comfort? The XREAS is stiff enough already!
Does it reduce travel? (Top end vs preload spacer?)
On road handling?
Off road visibility?
How much will it cost or can I do it myself?
Any recommendations on which one to get? (XREAS)

1" will do the trick. There's a 2/1 thing that happens with the front spacers. When buying spacers understand a 1" thick spacer will yield about 2" of lift. Most people who leave the back end stock like 1-2" of net lift. It depends if you load the back a lot, like a little rake etc.

Drive quality is basically unaffected. Perhaps a tiny bit more tippy in turns due the higher CG. Most prefer how it drives with a small spacer lift.

In theory a preload will ride a hair stiffer. In the 1-2" net lift range you'd be hard pressed to notice IMHO. A top spacer will increase the travel by allowing the wheel to drop a bit more. Some will argue this stresses ball joints and other components. My guess is a top spacer that yields 1.5" or less would be fine.

Brands: Cornfed and Daystar are very popular as is the Toytec.

For a good how-to look at J.A.'s site as well as Jason Burtmans.http://www.burtmanindustries.com/zoomprod.php?id=4run_03_up_liftkit&opt[7220]=1192046912

That's my two cents... Oh yeh, here's the 3rd cent, get some FJC springs:D

Go ahead and get yourself a 1" front lift (which is a 1/2" spacer) or even a 1.25" front lift (5/8" spacer) and you'll get rid of a good bit of that rake and put the front end up where it should have been from the factory. Even if you are super-sensitive, you will not notice any difference in ride or handling with such a small lift. I have the same lift on my 4Runner and it seems to behave exact like it did before installing the spacer.

You can do the job yourself if you have some basic mechanical aptitude and the right tools. I actually did mine alone in a few hours, which was pretty good since I didn't have an extra pair of hands to help me out at the time.

Where can I find a 5/8 spacer? Daystar doesn't make them. This is a top out spacer right?

Thanks for the replies. I have a daystar 1 budget lift but I'm afraid it will be too much lift. It's 1 thick. So from what I've seen, it will give me 2 or slightly more. So I think I'll try toytec. I still like a little rake and need to clear 275/60-18 with spidertrax.

I am not sure on that. Someone please correct me if I am wrong. The 1" kit is a TOPOUT spacer lift and you would use a 1" spacer to acheive 1" of lift. The PRELOAD spacer lift is the one I believe gives you a 2:1 ratio on the lift, ie 1" spacer = 2" approx. Lift.

I know some of the lift kits used/use a combination of them both. I guess the best thing to do would be to Email Daystars tech dept and ask.

Here is a link to the 1" lift installation instructions. It shows the spacer on top of the coil spring/shock assembly.

Preload vs top spacers can affect the ride. In a static condition the net gain will be equal from either until the spacer gets so thick that the strut is topped out. (That never happens in real life 'cause the spacer would have to be huge.) The approximate 2/1 ratio holds true with either type of spacer.

IMHO, if you are talking about spacers that yield 1" of total lift or less you'd be hard pressed to tell a difference in ride. If you were into off-roading but chose to have a minimal lift (1" or so) the arguement could be made for the top spacer as it would allow a little extra droop by the front wheel. With the swaybar disconnected you'd see a hair more flex by the front end.

Jason at Burtman Cornfed had a 1/2 top out spacer that will lift you 1" .

Watch what Daystar tells you , strangely enough I feel a guy there named Don does not know much of anything. Talk to someone else there.

This states it gives 3/4" in lift which means the spacer is 3/8" thick. That isn't the amount of lift being discussed in this thread.

thank you for trying to be on your game.. but our spacer is EXACTLY 1/2 inch thick, now, I understand it states you only get 3/4 of an inch of lift, but we all know what a 1/2 inch metal returns us....

:biggrin2:

I think this is what RickC is getting at . Sounds like he's right to me . Per Toytec descriptions.

You guys need to do some corrections.

And a question , why no rear spacers available for 4th gen's ??

Thanks Falls, that is what I was mentioning. The advertisement says it provides 3/4". Based on that, I would not order it because I would think it gives 3/4" lift based on the ad. If the spacer is actually 1/2", which yields 1" lift, then the ad should say this in my opinion.

As it stands, I would not buy it because it doesn't provide the amount of lift I want based on the advertisement.

Make sense?

it does make sense, but you have to also realize that the top1-t kit fits almost the entire line up of vehicles we sell to, with variables to each vehicle. So the owner 'happen to choose' to describe his spacer as 3/4 in lift. I think any kit gives their lift height as an estimation, not an exact. I don't think that's possible.

It's no trouble the product doesn't work for you, but I still think this product is very applicable to this tread, and conversation. my 2 cents. :bigok:

Just wanted to let everyone know that all lift kits and leveling kits will ship same day they are ordered! This also goes for spidertrax wheel spacers!
