leveling kit question......help!!!

If you think about the suspension as kind of a modified fulcrum, it starts to make sense. Look at any video of a vehicle suspension in action, and you'll see the wheel may travel >3" up or down, but the movement at the shock/spring is much less. That's because the length of the control arms (lever) adds to the 'outboard' movement at the wheel. I'm sure one of the engineers on the board will come in and correct my terminology, but hopefully that starts to explain why it's not a 1:1 ratio.

Perfectly clear now, thank you for that :bravo:

Well I was able to get the lift on this weekend.....Then back off!!

I took several pictures which i will post in due time ( forgot what I did with my camera :wtf: I know!! )

The spacer was 1 3/8" thick, and The total height gained was 2 3/8", not 1:1 and not 2:1, I think you probably loose the 2:1 after you cross over that 1" thick spacer mark. So the spacer is being sent back and the toytec 1/2" ordered!! At least this time i know its going to work.

Pics to come!! I know :worthless

So here are the pics from the experiment.
Measurements are to the closest 8th.

Before measurements:

Drivers front: 33 1/8
Pass front: 33 1/4
Drivers rear: 35 5/8
Pass rear: 35 3/4

After measurements:

Drivers front: 35 5/8
Pass front: 35 5/8

Sheist! I just bought and was going to install the Daystar 1.25" front spacers but after seeing how much that raised yours I don't know now. What kit is it from Toytec you are getting? Is it listed as a top out spacer?

I am going to put this one on it.

Toytec 1/2 inch spacer

It list on the website 3/4 inch lift but everyone on here reports 1 inch of lift. If your spacer from daystar is 1 and 1/4 inch you will sit up there pretty good unless you are planning on doing anything on the rear.

Do you know if the 1" buget boost that is listed on daystar's website is the 1.25" spacer? Or is it actually a smaller like 1/2 or 3/4" spacer or have you looked into their lifts?

the daystar budget boost is 1" of material and will give you at least 2" (is not more) of lift. i just put in daystar budget boost and FJ springs/shocks this past weekend and it lifted the front end more than i expected. now the rake is gone and the body is level. the space in the wheel wells are almost even BUT the running boards are now at an incline towards the front. it is slight but still doesn't look right to me. now i am debating on whether to lower the front with the toytec 1/2" lift OR raising the rear 1.5" with toytec rear sparer....hmmmm what to do.

I know this may seem a bit to invasive, but I read another poster that took the daystar spacer that measured 1.25" roughly and since its a poly material, he cut it down to a smaller preferred height. I am contemplating the same now.

Still in limbo on Daystar also

I have the Budget Boost waiting to be installed, but the more crossed info I read the less I want to do anything. Hawks, I read on another forum that the guy trimmed the spacer to 5/8 of an inch and the lift amount was perfect. I sent him and message, but never got a reply on how to do it. His post just said with a table saw, but no other details. Im gonna try the same thing, just want to know the pitfalls and how to make a holder to slide the spacer on the rail to cut it and what blade to use. Anybody else wanna chime in?

Yeah 06, I have looked at every pic I could find on the forum and the few I've found like on the "lift and wheels" thread that have the daystar buget boost kit just look front high to me. I think the only real pitfalls would be getting a straight cut and having the 2 spacers match. I was thinking of using a good bandsaw and rigging something up. I was thinking about a 5/8-3/4" cut when I do it. Its a solid piece so theoretically it should be fine as far as holding up long term. But everytime I open up a new thread on leveling kits I wonder just what the hell I want to do.

So on my search for FJ springs, i can land a whole set of springs and shocks. My question is " Is it worth getting the shock for an extra 50 bucks ?? " or should i just get the springs and stay with my shocks? Here is a few pics of what I am looking at.

Thanks ~

oh an by the way they have around 5,000 miles on them, or so it is claimed.

IMHO the real question is how many miles do you have on your ride? If you have 50-60k why not get a fresh start on the shocks? I think it's been 'proven' (by the lack of negative feedback) that the FJ shocks work well. Are they 'better' than the OE's? I don't think anyone can say. I don't recall anyone replacing super low mile OE shocks with FJ's and no other changes. It's hard to definitively claim better or worse when you change shocks and springs.

i have about 40,000 on my ones now. I could get em and just hold on to them until i think its time to change. does it hurt anything to keep them in the garage for a few years without using them?

By having a reserve set of factory shocks(FJCs are still factory), would mean that you are going to transfer your spacers when the time comes that your original shocks needs replacement. The full FJC suspension will only provide minimal lift lika approx .5" front and .3-.5" rear, IMO because of the springs and not the shocks. So, you are still going to install back your spacers to level your truck. My shocks start leaking at 90K+ miles, you still have lot of time, and who knows new lift options will come up. Or, you'll get good deal in adjustable coilovers and other better setup than spacers.

All decisions are good, for example you can sell the shocks later because $50 is a steal. ;):

hawk and 06, check out my thread i have the DS budget boost with FJ springs/shocks now. total lift was 3.5" and i lost 1" in the rear. i will get pics up hopefully tonight.

matthewy03, for $50 extra that is a steal!!! shocks with less miles on them and the upper spring perch. by having the upper spring perch, if you plan on using a spacer (either toytec or DS) you are going to need to take it off to put the new longer bolts. if you pick up the whole set then you can do all the work the night before so you don't have to worry about it when your 4R is all apart. at the point its just getting the stock stuff out and putting the FJ stuff right in. makes for an easy job.
