Lexus RX300

Hello all,

My little sister is looking for a new to her car. I am going to look at a 2000 Lexus RX300 today. 120K on it. Looks clean from the pictures. Anyone have experience with these?

I have a 99 RX300. It has 262k on the clock and all is well.

things to look for

-Clean tranny fluid... these things are very picky about having clean fresh fluid in them.

-The HVAC blend door motors go bad so check that it will move into all positions by switching through all the modes and feeling for air flow.

-exhaust leak on the pipe before the muffler (where springs are)

-timing belt service sticker Due at 90k

-slow/hard shift from 1-2

-door lock actuators all work with remote


side note.

the spark plugs are pretty hard to change since you have to remove the upper intake, so if they have records of replacement that's a bonus.



Or if you want to buy mine that has all been serviced and is AWD....well that would be greeaaattt

Thank you for that info I will be sure to check for all that, along with the other usual maintainance items.

Also, if the oil was not changed frequently, RX300s are notorious for oil gelling. Research that on Google. Make sure there are proper maintenance records, and you can't tell just by looking under the oil fill cap, so take it to a mechanic. However, he will not be able to tell unless he pulls the valve cover off.
