Licence Plate Hardware Rust

Couple screws that hold license plate started to rust on 2004 4-R. Does any one have this problem? Is there a stainless replacement available? I can't stand rust especially on the body.

Replacing the front screws for stainless was an easy find (common metric size.) I was able to find the rear bolts (rare in stainless; can't remember exact metric size) at a specialty/industial fastener shop.

It's just the bolts, HomeDepot has rust proof bolts

Toyota gave me stainless steel license plate bolts on my 4Runner.

Maybe I have a special stainless steel and iridium 4Runner??

Its hard to believe that $30,000 vehichle has cheap chrome bolts. I got to tell my stealer to get some stainless stuff.

$43K for 04 limited and they are rusting don't matter how much you spend.

I think the bolts on the back that came from Toyota are zinc dipped, not stainless. If you go to the local R&S/Auto Zone/etc. you will find stainless replacement. You also have the option to use weatherproof caps, also sold locally. These caps (about $2 )are two pieces, one half (clear plastic) is put under/on the bolt before you screw it in (looks like the bolt is in a little cup). After you secure the plate with the half cap and bolt, you simply snap the color coordinated cap over the clear cap and bolt head. Also a good thing to do is use a little never seize on the treads of the bolt, so no matter what happens you can loosen the bolt easily.

Bought some at lowes today 4 for $1.12 not too bad. You should make sure to change them I had an 87 Toyota pickup and I had to cut the plate off because they rusted to the car. I like some of the other cars where they have the plastic inserts, then even if it rusts it will still come out.
